Ruby's Bought a House, Now I want to Own It!

Yesterday was the first NSD of the month and today is looking promising too! Even though I'm in the office today, I brought lunch with me, coffee and a couple of snacks to get me through the long drive home. Dinner last night used up quite a few things in the cupboard and fridge and dinner tonight should hopefully use up the last of the kimchi that's been taking up a lot of space in the fridge! It's weird to be happy to see an emptying fridge and freezer but it's necessary - new house doesn't come with either and we can't take the current ones with us as built ins. And while I will be trying to get new ones delivered on moving day, there's just no guarantee that timings will work out.
Have also cleared the credit card of the things that had built up on it, but all was met from sinking funds so didn't have to raid my excess from my current account 👍
No updates on the house stuff but have managed to secure a lower rate on our new mortgage (by .4%) which will save us about £20 a month.
Will be off to do my civic duty after work and husband has been helping out with one of the parties (not any shade of red or blue, but another primary colour) this morning to collate their exit poll data. Might even stay up past my 10pm bed time to see some of the first results come in.Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20174 -
10 days into the month and we're up to 4 NSD's so far 👍 Although I do have an every growing list of things that we need for the new house.
Speaking of the new house, we received the mortgage deed to sign this morning. All we're waiting on now is the results of the gas and electric safety certificates from the sellers. DH has tried to open a can of worms by having an asbestos test carried out which as expected came back positive. He's emailed the seller's agent saying that the result is positive and hopes the sellers will work with us on this but to be honest I'm ambivalent about it especially as it's so late in the day to raise something that might mean renegotiating the purchase price. We'll see what happens but looks like we're inching ever closer to this all being over.
Managed to pick up yet more free boxes yesterday as we've used up all the one we already had - the living room is almost packed, just have a lot of wine glasses to wrap and box next 😨 Fridge and cupboards are looking very empty, just need to focus on the freezer now. Have also started sorting through the books and sent some to my book club friends but there are still so many more to go 😆Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20173 -
8 NSD's so far this month 👍
Moving dates are starting to be a little firmer and we could be moving 4 days after we get back from the Olympics so need to try and get as much sorted as possible before we go away. Spent a bit of time meal planning last night and should empty the freezer before we go away, along with random things in the fridge and most of the cupboards. Have 3 removal companies coming to quote this week which is the next scary thing to deal with house wise.
Not only is life stressful with moving but my dad has his surgery date confirmed for the end of August - he's currently on a cruise with my mum in Norway and I'm under strict instructions to watch one of the port webcams today as they'll be waving when they get to land 😆
Oh and there is a very slim chance that I might lose my job in September so that's not fun to think about when you're in the middle of buying a new house! It's a very outside chance - they want to promote me but in doing so I have to have my post de-established, apply for the new one and there's no guarantee that I'll be the successful candidate if someone else applies. My hope is that it's such a niche role that no one else internally will want to apply 🤞 I can't even really think about it right now with everything else going on 🤣🤯Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20173 -
12 NSD's so far this month
Looks like we are definitely moving 4 days after we get back from the Olympics 😳 Hopefully will exchange next week - our buyers are very excited to exchange which has thrown our EA off (he said he's never had a buyer so excited before 🤣) The only hold up is that we're waiting on confirmation of a slightly lower mortgage rate which will save us over £100 a month so I'm very much willing to wait for that to come through!
Feeling very stressed / overwhelmed by everything going on and the rather large to-do list I have. Didn't really sleep last night which has put me in a bit of funk today. Can only do one thing at a time so need to try and allocate at least 1 task to every day over the 2 weeks we have to actually do things!Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20175 -
WE'VE FINALLY EXCHANGED!! 🥳🥳🥳🥳
So now it's all systems go to get all the things sorted. I've ordered our fridge and arranged to move our broad band to the new place. Tonight we have to decide on which removals company we're using (waiting on the final quote to come through).
I spent a bit of time last night setting up the new budget spreadsheet for the new house and will probably set up a new diary here after we move as our mortgage free plan will be a little different when we're also trying to tackle a renovation.
Right enough of the excitement, back to work now!Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20176 -
