John Lewis price matching on TV's

I've previously had good success with JL's price-matching, so I don't think it's a gimmick. I bought a Samsung home theatre system and got them to price-match from 179.99 down to 149.99, and the same system again nearly a month later down to 129.99 (if I remember the amounts correctly).0

Hi,i just rang the local JL and they took details over the phone for a price match with richer sounds for a panasonic tx32lxd70 lcd tv (richer sounds £200 cheaper).Lady at JL took all the details & phone number of RS and said I would get a response via email in 24hrs. I can then order & pay for it over the phone so wouldnt need to go to the shop (30 miles from me). Waiting to hear the outcome.
She said it had to be a shop and they had to have it in stock which richer sounds do today.
Will let you know.
Thanks0 -
Snap Jaffacat - I rang up yesterday for exactly the same tv and a pricematch from richer sound as well.
Although I wasn't offered such a speedy response - I was told I would be contacted by telephone and that it would be upto 10 days!!!0 -
lewis did a price match on sony tv got £500 off ,and a dvd hdd recorder value £399, for £99 as part of an offer sony were promoting.with 5 year warranty which i think is worth about £350.never went into the shop just did the deal over the phone. The lewis branch i rang was in london/I had seen on the av forum that someone had seen the bravia tv i wanted for sale at a shop in london. So irang lewis's and told them that i had been working down london and had seen this tv £500 cheaper and could she price match it for metook the address of the shop (which i got off the net) and my phone number and said she would be in touch.I thought i would ear no more she rang the next day and said they would price match but not the dvd recorder offer and i could deal with the notts store. Then i found out someone on the av forum got the dvd recorder as well as a price match,so i rang the notts store and politely enquired if it was too late to add the dvd offer to my order she made a few calls and said that would be okay.So i got £500 off my tv £300 off my dvd recorder. wonderful place the internet. good luck hope this helps.my tip would be remember to be polite they get tired of people shouting at them0

Lungman - lets see how gets a response the quickest. She may have promised to get back to me today but we will see.
My concern is the richer sounds shop I priced matched JL with only had 1 in stock yesterday so I hope that they call them soon to cehck it out otherwise I may not get it.0 -
Hey come on!! The idea surely is that if you were going to buy an item from JL (generally a good idea in view of their customer service, knowledgeable staff, long warranty etc) then if it is available from another retailer more cheaply, they will match the competition's price so you don't miss out by staying with JL. If it isn't in stock at JL you wouldn't have been buying it from them anyway.
I have always been very satisfied with their price matching, most recently a Panasonic HD DVD recorder where they dropped their price by £150 to match a Richer Sounds deal.
You misunderstand me. JL NEVER keep this item in stock (presumably for cost v's sale reasons) as indeed do NONE of the 'stockists'. All 'stockists' (at least all the approx dozen I tried) wait till they get an order then place that order directly with Falcon to have the cooker made (you have to wait whilst they make it as even the manufacturers dont keep a stock of each model/colour - we have waited 5 weeks for ours which is due delivery this Friday).
That being the case JL are in EXACTLY the same boat as every other supplier, so why would I be being presumptious to expect them to honour their promise ? They were prepared to take our order and place it with the manufacturer !!!
In this case JL are KNOWINGLY selling a product at a premium of £600 (not a bad little over price !!!!)
We would have happily had bought the product from JL as we wanted the extra warranty (as per the OP) but not for £600 more than we can buy it elsewhere !
I was SO concerned at the price difference that I started to doubt my own sanity and wondered whether this was a superior model and as such rang the manufacturer direct to get confirmation that the one that I could find cheaper (in just about ALL other stockists by the way) was indeed the same product !!!!! And guess what - IT IS !!!
Futhermore my Father is a big JL fan as he has bought in to this "just get it at JL as it wont be cheaper elsewhere due to their promise" mentality. On several occasions I have found my Dad the same item elsewhere cheaper (in a retail store).
Why is it that I can find these cheaper products (legitimately according to JL's "Never knowingly undersold" promise) and yet their team cannot ?
Do I have super powers that they don't have (I think not) or are they just using one of the oldest marketting tricks known to man as a ploy ???
Call me cynical but try it for yourself - take our range cooker as an example. Try typing "Falcon 1092 cooker" in to Kelkoo, Pricerunner and indeed even Google and I am sure that you too will find 90% of suppliers out there doing it at least £500-£600 cheaper !!!!
Don't be lulled in to a false sense of security !!!! Just because someone tells you it's cheap it doesn't mean it necessarily is cheap. DO YOUR HOMEWORK !!!!!0 -

Just had a phone call from JL - they wont price match becausee the TV wasnt out on display (was yesterday)but it wasnt today - so RS must have sold it/taken it off display....going to look at AVFORUMS for other alternatives.
Let me know how you get on lungman0 -
Hi, the full terms and conditions of JL's never knowlingly undersold are available on their website. Link here:

Found they didn't price match either on a local store basis (as it was Waitrose stocking JL products). They suggested a call to John Lewis directly for an order to see if they would price match. At this moment, we changed our mind.

If you dont like the price JL are selling it for go elsewhere. They can charge you whatever you like (within reasons).
I've had no problems with JL had 2 plasma Tv's PM with them all over the phone and via email.0 -
I find JL customer service second to none0
