Goose down Duvet

I bought this pure 100% Hungarian goose down duvet at John Lewis over a year ago and it is the best duvet I have ever had. It was expensive at over £200, but with care should last about 30 years. However, some of the down has started to poke through the " downproof " cover and some through the seams, not tons, but enough for me to think that the down proof cover is not working.
I informed someone in the bedding department and they are going to inspect the duvet and they said if it needs a repair
I might have to pay! I said after paying that much for a duvet I will not be expecting to pay and I can't see where they would effect a repair, there are no holes, it's just that the down is poking through.
What are my rights here?

What kind of care is required for it to last 30 years?I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off

Well, it is pure goose down, it can be washed in a large capacity machine. Geese go in water don't they? and it has to be tumble dried to fluff it up. I have a duvet liner under the duvet cover, I also use a top sheet which I fold over the duvet so that we don't slaver on it through the night:o so I do not intend washing it for a few years anyway, I will maybe put it over the line for fresh air now and again. I used to spend money, buying then replacing, these synthetic things which were so heavy and cumbersome, so I feel I am saving money with this, in the long run.
It is the warmest most comfortable duvet ever, I live in the North of England by the sea and in the midst of winter, I leave my window open at night for air and every part of me that is covered by the duvet is warm, of course if you sleep with your arms out, they won't be warm:p
I am just worried that my precious down is escaping!0 -
It is a well known problem. There is an ex store shop in stirtchley, birmingham. They have a weekly delivery of John Lewis duvets, pillows etc. Some have a faults labelled and others don't. I bought one a few weeks ago and had to search for one that was not leaking. Call them and they will tell you that they have returns. With this info you are well armed in knowing that you are not the only customer who's had a problem! 0121 459 1466.Cash ISA rate 6.5% fixed for 2 years. Andrewmoorcroft:j  Thank you so much for that information.
I have just noticed too, that there are about 4 of the compartments not filled as much as the others and feel quite flat. I will be disappointed if JL do not replace this duvet but I will not be fobbed off and armed with your information, I feel in a much better position. Thank you.
Did you buy yours from JL or from the returns store?0 -

Could you please tell me where this shop is in Birmingham please, I am going to buy one of these and the prices from John Lewis are astronomical.0 -
Oh go on andrewmoorcroft, be a devil
tell me what you paid and what is "domestics"
Also to Millie, make sure you get pure down and not down with a bit of feather in it, sometimes says in the small print. You will love it, when I first got mine I could not wait to go to bed it was so comfy. Of course now, mine has to undergo a post portem to find out why it is poking through the cover and shedding fluff when I shake it!0 -
It was reduced from £240 to £60. Let us know how you get on?Cash ISA rate 6.5% fixed for 2 years. Mortgage rate 0.75% = 5.75% profit on £75K = £4500 per year:j

Well, andrewmoorcroft, that last post was a knee jerk reaction;) .
I have to wait 3 weeks to return my duvet to JL as I only have two and the other one will be used by family who are coming to stay.
I will keep posting on any progress though. I think what I will do is write a letter to the lady that I spoke to in JL and politely request that they exchange the duvet for a new one. If she declines, I will then write to the managing director, complaints tend to trickle down the scale rather than up!
I haven't called the store, whose number you gave me yet, but I will.
By the way where is " domestics" ?
Thanks again:cool:0
