Well, I spoke to the solicitor today and she hasn't heard anything back from the seller's solicitor. She said we're running out of time as they need to leave time between exchange and completion for the lender to transfer funds, and she asked if we have alternative arrangements. I said we do, but we've considered the risk and want to go ahead and exchange even if we don't hear back from her solicitor. I spoke to my brother (who works for the Council in Norfolk and asked him about it and he said it's low risk with a company like David Wilson Homes. He said he would be very surprised if DWH hadn't already paid the notice and if it were him buying the house, he wouldn't be concerned). So, hopefully our solicitor will get hold of the seller's solicitor tomorrow and we can get everything finalised. I just want it all to be done now!!!

We're doing a good job at using up food and drink in the house. We had the BIL round yesterday for our usually weekly get together and I made us fajitas, which allowed me to use up some sauce from the cupboard, and I also did some mushroom rice as I have one pack that needed using up so it was kind of more like a burrito/fajita hybrid. We all enjoyed it and DH said he'd have it again with the rice, so that might be a variation we carry forward. We used up another bottle of wine (which was needed when we watched The Walking Dead) and pudding was a use up of some mousses that Mum gave me when I went to visit her and Dad yesterday (Dad doesn't seem to be getting through as many nowadays and she didn't want them to go off).

Tomorrow I'm taking the cat to the cattery so it'll be a week before we see him again, and I'll be taking him back down to Nottingham! I'll have to make sure the cat flap is locked so he can't escape until he's got used to the house :)

So much to think about and organise, but we're getting there. I finished off the information I was writing for the new owners yesterday as well. I'm trying to give them all the information about the house that we had to find out the hard way (such as when the shower in the bathroom starts leaking with water from the control panel, which thermostatic cartridge to buy and the video on Youtube to watch so you can change it yourself and avoid a plumber's fee etc. as well as some lighter things like the neighbours' names and the bin days). I've got a box file that I'm filling with things such as manuals for the appliances, all the keys on a big keyring, the information document I've written and so on - it's kind of like the pack you get when you buy a new house.

Tonight we're packing a suitcase with clothes etc. to put us on for a few days while we stay with the in-laws and then unpack at the other end. We're also taking the last of our alcohol round and I'll be dropping off Mum's mother's Day card and present. I am actually feeling fairly organised - just!

Hi all.... I'm back at long last! Well, we had an eventful move, that was full of hitches and doubt right up to the last minute, but thankfully it was just the lack of a PC that has kept me away. I am so glad we paid extra and had a removal company to pack for us and move us down, however we have struggled a bit with the unpacking as things have gone missing and turned up in random places, and some boxes have the last few items from different rooms bunbled together so it's been a bit of discovery I have finally found my PC, hence the update, and the cutlery turned up wrapped in paper inside the slow cooker!

I'm not really sure where to begin with my update. The bills have shot up! The month we moved in we got a letter from the council to say the council tax has increased, and this is on top of a considerable step up between the last house and this one. We now have 2 mortgages on this place (the one from the previous house that we ported across and the second is the delta between the house price and previous mortgage). We also have a cleaner 2.5 hours every other week. We also had to pay a handyman to fix a few issues when we moved in and an electrician to add some extra sockets, change lights etc. It's not all bad though, as the house is on a large new build estate where the land was purchased from the Co-op, there is a nice Co-op in the centre of the estate. I get plenty of reductions from my NUS card, and they reduce items on an evening to 10% of the original price, so we have had plenty of bargains! I also joined the local gym with a student discount and 4 months free :)

The best news is that we love the house, and it is well worth the extra amount each month. We had my brothers, their wives and their children, as well as my mum all visiting a few weeks ago and it was great! there was plenty of room for everyone and there is a park on the estate so we could walk there with the children.

We're still going up to Yorkshire as much as we can. Despite Dad's diagnosis at Christmas, he is still here. Sadly, when everything as thinks he can't possibly get any worse and it's the end, he declines even further :( He's struggling with the hot weather but thankfully there is a carer at the nursing home who manages to get Dad to drink quite a bit (no-one else can, we think it's because he's more on Dad's level and tries to make it fun). I'm hoping for his sake that it doesn't last too much longer as he is in quite a bit of pain now.

Work is a bit painful at the moment. Very stressful, tiring and busy, but it pays the bills so I keep plodding on. Luckily we have a holiday coming up soon so we will be able to switch off from work and relax. We're going to California again for the B-I-L's 40th birthday and wedding anniversary. It's just what we need and looking forward to that is keeping me going.

It's good to be back and I'll be posting more regular updates going forwards :)

Hey Charley lovely to see you back
I am glad that the house move went well but so sorry to hear your Dad is still suffering. I hope you are looking after yourself as you have clearly had a very stressful period.
