    E.ON Fixed 1 year v5

Scottish Power Online Fixed Saver March 2018 v2
    Day 13.546p per kWh
    Night 5.446p per kWh
    Standing charge
    32.88p per day

1 year's charges, given my average usage:

    £1561.10 (E.ON) vs £1262.02 (Scottish Power)

E.ON is 24% (£299.08/year) more expensive than Scottish Power for me.

Extra cost of staying with E.ON: £24.92 per month.

I don't have gas. My electricity usage is relatively high. These electricity unit rates are very uncompetitive. Scottish Power have already advised me that they are contacting E.ON to switch me over. I have never switched before.

Sorry you're going inexpert but understand why. As this is your first switch, thought it might help if I give you an idea of what to expect.

As you say, Scottish Power will contact us to request your account. As they're part of Faster Switching, this will be fairly quick. At this point, your online account will be locked so no changes can be made. This includes not being able to enter meter readings.

Scottish Power will ask you for readings to start their account from. They'll send these to us via a third party who checks they're in line with past usage. We'll use them to close our account and issue your final bill. This makes sure the same electricity isn't charged twice.

With Faster Switching, your supply should move over in about two and half weeks although it will take longer to close the account. This is because, as well as the readings mentioned above, other third parties need to be told about the change of supplier. These include the energy distributors, meter operators, national databases and meter readers. This is done via a series of electronic messages. As the gaining supplier, Scottish Power will look after this.

After the final bill is raised, we'll refund all the outstanding credit balance. If a Direct Debit is open, we'll send this back to your bank within 5 working days of the final bill. If not, we'll send a cheque within 10 working days. If there's a debit balance, we'll collect this through a Direct Debit (if still open) about two weeks after the final bill. If not, we'll contact you to ask for payment.

From a previous post on another thread, I believe you're on our Fixed 1 Year version 19 tariff and this is about to end. As such, you'll be inside the Price Protection window (open 49 calendar days before your tariff ends until 20 working days after). Provided Scottish Power contacts us within this period, we'll keep you on version 19 prices up until the supply end date. There'll be no exit fees either.

Sorry again to lose you inexpert and hope this gives you an idea of what to expect. Sorry also if you know all this and I'm trying to teach you how to suck eggs. Let me know if you need any more information as happy to help.

Many thanks for the kind words Maxwell007. They're appreciated by both Helena and I.

I'm sure our stats guys have a handle on how many customers are coming and going but it's not something they've shared with us. Not yet anyway.

Sorry I can't give you what you want Maxwell007and you're thinking of leaving but understand why. Thanks again for taking the time to post about us.
