PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING: Hello Forumites! In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non-MoneySaving matters are not permitted per the Forum rules. While we understand that mentioning house prices may sometimes be relevant to a user's specific MoneySaving situation, we ask that you please avoid veering into broad, general debates about the market, the economy and politics, as these can unfortunately lead to abusive or hateful behaviour. No it's not illegal, as once it's posted through your door, it is no longer "in the postal system" and therefore not covered by Postal Services Act 2000
You can open the mail, but you must not use anything you may discover, to the detriment of the addressee . . .0 -

That'll be it, I was close though0

I would be opening the mail!
No need: What I find, so sad, is that it amazing what low quality glue companies use these days - penny-pinching types - on their envelopes... and stuff "just falls out..."
I've found ex-tenant's employers, bank accounts, NI number (the latter useful for tracing people..) etc etc.. Such luck!0 -
It "falls out" even more easily if you place a clean tea towel over the flap and run an iron over it.
To stop anything "falling out" twice, glue sticks are available from all good stationers and most supermarkets (and pound shops)
Or so I've heard...;)"I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0 -

Best thing to do would be to cross out address and write 'Not at this address, return to sender' and pop it in a postbox.Bad idea, Postal Services Act 2000 makes that illegal
post opening is an old, old, question answered so many times before....
