6 year old debt won't go away! Help!

Hi all. Iv just checked my credit report to see an old United utilities water debt. It's under closed accounts but iv got red marks saying this debt is dragging down my score. It was opened 1/2/2010 but it doesn't say defaulted or settled it just says updated June 14th 2016. Why has it not gone yet? It's over 6 years old. Should I pay it off or will it disappear? Please help. Iv been paying off debts for 2 years and I'm nearly done apart from this one

It's not going to be from the date you opened the account.
What were the last dealings you had with them?

Was it defaulted?
If it is in the closed accounts section it will remain for 6 years from the date of closure.
What is the current status of the account? It must say something ....0 -
Accounts are visible from the earlier of the 6 year anniversary of the account closing or the 6 year anniversary of a default (if there is one on the account)0

It doesn't say when it was closed. It doesn't say default. It just says opened Feb 2010 then updated June 2016. I don't know when it was closed. It is in closed accounts.0

You need to check all 3 CRAs then and see what, if anything, it says on the others.

Iv checked noddle and it doesn't come up on there. I checked clear score with equifax and it shows up there on closed account but with no default date just says opened 1/2010 and updated 6/2016.0

On my clearscore closed accounts, the last updated date fairly closely coincides with when the account itself was closed.
So I would anticipate the payment history etc for your utility account to remain on file until 14th June 2022 (6 years from the last updated date)0
