about 6 mths ago I needed 2 x cheques to send to the DVLA to register an imported vehicle , NO they would NOT accept a debit card , my friendly shopkeeper had a cheque book , and I paid him the money (£55 +£17) and 2 cheques were written out to the DVLA with my referance number written on , that took me less than 25 days to work out

What's the point of that link? The main result is for the American system (check) so not relevant.

All the other results are apocryphal stories from forums such as these - no actual policy from banks or law.
