How to get a cheque?

Hello!

I want to pay someone that only accepts cheques. I don''t think I have cheque book or if I was sent one by my bank, I don't know where it is.

Can you tell me please if I can just walk in my bank and have them prepare a cheque for me? I cannot wait for a checkbook to be sent to me. Any bank does this?

Or is there any other way to pay this person, like a post cheque or any other way?

Thanks!

Do you have a relative who has a chequebook?

You pay the relative and he makes the payment by cheque?

Unfortunately I don't have anyone. And I am not sure if they will accept from someone who is not me.

I think soulsaver means - ask the Bank.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

All banks should do that. They call them banker's drafts. They will charge you £20 or so for the privilege.

Why yes, if 'this person' gives you their bank account details, you could just send them the money. And you can apparently still get postal orders http://www.postoffice.co.uk/postal-orders
  • Ask your bank for a cheque book.

Ask your bank for a cheque book.

OP has indicated he can't wait for a cheque book, I suspect one could easily take 10 days to arrive as a lot of banks now don't issue them as standard.

It's a long time since I used a cheque, but can a one-off cheque be issued over the counter by your bank? I seem to remember this being the case but I may be wrong.

You can but it will cost around £10-£20. It'll be a banker's draft rather than an actual cheque.

Places that only accept cheques are very, very odd.
