Hi all,
I'm trying to learn Sylheti so that I can talk to my future mother in law. I've only been able to find a single phrasebook which I've already memorised. No grammar books or dictionaries. I can basically talk like a toddler with the phrases but I really struggle moving beyond that. Any advice would be greatly appreciated or if someone is willing to help me by having daily/weekly conversations then I'd be more than happy. In return I can asure you, you'll fund a great friend in me.
I hope to hear from you guys soon.
Thanks in advance.

Might be worth checking Wikipedia and Omniglot for general info re alphabet and pronunciation.
I don't know where you live but if you are local to a Bengali community perhaps some of them could help - I believe the 2 languages are very similar.
Or contact the Bangladeshi/Indian embassies to see if they can recommend a suitable grammar/dictionary.
Good luck, sounds like a mammoth task but a lovely gesture.0 -
Go on Streetlife (social platform in case you are not already aware) for your area and ask if a local Sylheti speaker would be interested in teaching you to speak conversational Sylheti.
In my area a group of people have set up a group to learn conversational French.Smiles are as perfect a gift as hugs...
