I've not read everything, but is the rust actually affecting the operation or maintenance of any vehicles? Is it any more than surface rust? Will it prevent bolts being undone by mechanics? Most vehicles will get water ingress under the bonnet anyway so it need not necessarily be a problem. You could give the affected areas a spray with tyre shine that includes silicone as I understand this should help protect those areas from rust. Do not start the engine however until ample time has been given for all the fumes etc to evaporate.

    Hi anewman.
    Re:- Petition HERE>> http://www.petition.co.uk/water_ingress_to_engine_re_fiat__peugeot
Thankyou for your very valid question & advice.
There are several points I would like to make to all interested viewers of this thread.

1st:- Anyone who has seen the "youtube" videos can see that what we are worrying about is not the "normal" amounts of water that can get into an engine bay.
    Youtube here>> http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=9un3PN2lia4
    & here>> http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=-TWjrqpO4rI

2nd:-Many Fiat authorised garages are now starting to tell owners who have registered this problem that there are 16 or 18 parts (or differing quotes of parts!) required to provide the Fiat fix.(Notably I think Peugeot are still calling this "cosmetic")

3rd:-Home solutions should not be nessacery, how many people with any other vehicles have the split scuttle, inadequate drainage & water sitting an inch or more deep around their injectors (to mention but a few of the "issues")!

4th:-The companies involved although now reacting (in differing degrees!) as mentioned above. Are still not putting a time scale on the "fixes" because of parts shortages!. This may be because potentially tens of thousands need the "fix" and we the existing customer are way down the list!.
IE:- The dealers with stock of new vans with the problem want the fix,so do the vans rolling of the assembly line & so on. In other words we are not prioritised!.

5th:-If we do a home fix of any type we run the risk of invalidating our warranty or worse, We could create a safety hazzard if doing something incorrectly,IE your last suggestion is probably sound but what if someone does it wrong and causes a fire!. We should not have to do any of these things!.

6th:- Long term effects of this excessive water are as yet unknown but 2 points here. A quick check of the V.O.S.A recall website shows problems often appear much further down the line. Also members are already reporting isolated (at the moment) incidences of problems that may or may not prove to be related. The fact remains it shouldn't be happening!.
PS:- There was recently mention of having something to do with the steering checked at our Fiat garages..but again no proper info!!!

Last but by no means least !
After almost 8 months and still no "official statement" from Fiat and Nothing at all from Peugeot, We are still not getting proper consistent information.

The petition is as much about our treatment as it is about the "Faults...cause & effect".
We ask that everyone considers signing to the mission statement that it is not fair for large companies to treat their customers this way!
We have spent tens of thousands of pounds and are effectively treated as mushrooms.

  • I have the above problem in my new Peugeot boxer 111 based motorhome,I also have a ford capri I bought it new in 1984 that does not leak causing rust or damage under bonnent,I think thats why we have bonnents.
I would get yours checked out Connor looks like you have a problem.

    The legend lives.
  • Here's where you should be conner

    http://www.tickfordportal.co.uk/capripower/bboard/

    or the capri laser pages.

See a helpful post might be able to buy some stainless bonnet fittings to swap your rusty ones.

Now thats an idea stainless steel bolts screw and fittings should sell alot to new Fiat and Peugeot ownesr to do it now and not wait for 20 years.

    Hi urbanracer.
I think connor has gone which is just great because the argument he had about wether we even had a fault was never valid & re my post above we have now been proved right!!
However we still need help getting action from the companies involved and they should not be allowed to behave this way.
:T For the good of all vehicle buyers in an internet age solidarity will teach these companies not to treat their customers this way. :T

  • ITs a cover up! rang my dealer this week WHY Peugeot told me to.
Dealer still did not have all parts one of the parts is a small platic cover for the ABS unit he had not heard of the engine cover for the top of the injectors so I sent him a picture so he could obtain part number and order it.

So we have engine cover and now a ABS cover I wonder whats going to be covered up next:rotfl:

Today I been contacted by a firm that sell tapes and cleaners they recon they have a fix cost about £42 inc vat+p+p.I have asked for the instuctions so will see what happens.

    keep up the campaign Happy:beer:

I could got lost on this site we need to direct more support here.
  • urban do not go to that company they are spammers and will rip you off!!!!
The victims we know so well

    When they kiss and tell
    Strange places we never see
    But you're always there
Like a ghost in my dream
  • you mean like Peugeot and Campbells?

£42 would be a small price to pay and I bet it will work a little I have had a look at their web site they must be good they supply the NHS:D
