Urgent Help needed Fiat/Peugeot water problem

Does anyone have one of the above, either a commercial van or a motorhome, the new 2007 Fiat x250 or boxer 111. If you have and have not already done so PLEASE look in the engine as it is likely you may be suffering from a problem with water getting into the engine compartment and rusting various key components. More info on the problem can be found here http://www.motorhomefacts.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=31287

If you know you have the problem please sign our petition here

NB.The factory making these can produce 200.000+ vehicles a year.
So anyone could be affected New or later second hand.
If the forum "powers that be" want to make this a "sticky" that would be great.
    Many thanks.

It's affecting coachbuilts. That's a Fiat that's had a special body built by a company. You're shouting at the wrong people. It should be the coachbuilders you're complaining to.
  • Hi Conor.
It is affecting the base vehicle it is nothing to do with the conversion to motorhome,
It is also affecting "white Van man" and any other base vehicle of these makes and models.
We are not shouting,Hence the petition because its democratic.
We have tried complaining to the dealers and converters but they use consumer laws to make us go to the vehicle manufacturer and we end up having to go to these lengths.
Thanks for your input hopefully anyone thinking this way now understands its a big problem.
The factory in Italy can make in excess of 200,000 of these vehicles, thats what i call big.

Funnily enough we DO actually know what is is affecting, in case you hadn't actually read the petition or the initial post properly we do mention it's the ENGINE. The engine as you have stated above is the base vehicle onto which the converter builds the motorhome body and we do know this. It is not affected by the water as it is not in fact the engine!!!!!!!!
We have been carefully and painstakingly researching this problem and we know who our target audience is. It is EVERY single person who has either a Peugeot, Fiat and to a lesser extent Citreon 2007 model whether it is part of a motorhome or as 1happy has mentioned a 'white van' man. It is NOT a problem restricted to motorhomes.
As for shouting funnily enough we are not doing that either, just trying to alert a broad spectrum of people to a problem the aforementioned companies will not tell them about. Also under the 'sale of goods act' your contract is with the dealer you purchased from, not the coachbuilder as you put it. If we had been getting anywhere with either dealer, base converter, or chassis manufacturer we would not have started a petition in the first place!

    :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

BECAUSE THEY GO RUSTY DUE TO THE FACT THEY'RE NOT ALUMINIUM. Aluminium ones get a "dirty" look on them. The ones that don't go so quickly are those used every day where the engine evaporates the moisture on it. The ones that spend periods unused deteriorate quicker. It's been that way forever.

I had a reconditioned engine fitted into my Ford Capri in May. The exposed surfaces are now getting some surface rust on them. There is no water leaking onto the engine.

I also have an engine block in my shed that's been exposed to air for about 2 years. The deck face, which was shiny when I took the head off, now has a nice coating of dark brown rust over it.

So what you and the rest of the stupid people in this petition are saying is that I should be complaining because of something that happens naturally when iron and steel is exposed to air in this country - even moreso in damp conditions such as the summer we've had? I take it you've never noticed your brake discs getting a slight tint after the car has been stood for a few days, especially if it's been raining?

No wonder you've not had a response. I bet they were rolling about laughing when they read the letters being sent.

Engines are perfectly OK being exposed to water. If they weren't, they'd be cocooned in an airtight casing.

You're also blaming the Scuttle design for draining water via the engine bay. My Ford Capri does this. I can take pictures of it for you. It's been done in vehicles for decades. Where else do you expect it to go? Also there's plenty of other ways for water to get into the engine bay from above such as the wing drip rails at the top of the inner wing.

Rolls Royce had the right idea. Make it impossible for the stupid to get under the bonnet. Obviously they were thinking of you lot at the time.
  • Why are some people so quick to condemn when others are having a serious problem. You have no idea what the problem is, neither will you actually listen to what we are trying to say.
We did not diagnose the problem Fiat/Peugeot did when we took them back to them. They certainly did not and would not expect a van of that age to have rust in areas where it should not be (injectors!!)
I am not prepared to try and convince you otherwise your postings show everyone what you are, ignorant of the problem.
No one is laughing over all this least of all the above as it is costing them a fortune to sort out. Trading standards are advising rejection of the affected vehicles, not a stance they would undertake lightly!! Have a look at this video see if you would be happy if this was happening to your beloved Capri!!http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=9un3PN2lia4
I am not going to dignify your ignorance by responding to you again.

Have you posted this on http://www.honestjohn.co.uk (clik The Backroom - Discussion)

Also might be well worth mailing him directly, as he is a strong voice, within the motoring media.

Hello and thanks for your contribution. Nice of you to respond so positively unlike the previous poster who although made a few valid points completely misunderstood the problem.
In answer to your question yes we have contacted that website here is his reply
Your first course of action is against whoever sold you the vehicle.

But Boxers are outside my remit because they are big LCVs. I cover pick-ups and LCV MPVs such as the Expert, but not the big stuff

as you see he is unable to help. Thanks again for the suggestion though!
