    Just another update.

He is eaten abeit not much hasnt lost weight since last week but is 3.7kg compared with when he was at vets two weeks ago at 4.0kg and always has been a slim under weight cat but probably a little to slim these days.

We have tried the renal cat biscuits along with wet good quality cat food. He eats a little we add that powder to it. He also goes to toilet but is always definitely not same cat.

He seems more friendly not in a good way, I think he needs comfort. But he also hides away in a cupboard and even on top of the kitchen cupboards

I try and encourage him to eat more. he goes out and runs around at times but I think he is slowly dying. He now has mouth ulcers and must find it painful to eat as well as difficult with little or no appetite.

We have decided best to have him put to sleep.

I forgot to say he always had had issues in life since we got him, he finds it painful in one paw, vet calls it squiddey paw. Something to do with his immune system fighting. He has had treatment but didnt work but he has had a good life with us.

I just want naturally whats best for him now, I just think he will only get worse in weeks to come.

The weight loss, maybe a combination of not enough food, and muscle wastage. If I remember correctly, Cats with CRF can't extract potassium from their food, so instead take it from their muscles - hence the gaunt look they can have.

I've still got her in the bedroom - her ashes are on a shelf. There was an option of a Pet Cemetery, but that didn't appeal.

Have a rescue cat now of nearly twelve, a naughty torty, had her for three years - last weighed in at 5.15kg.

We had him put down today, he was getting worse lost some more weight and he had a unkept look. Also found out he urinated in daughter chest of draws last night, where he wanted to sleep I no it wasn't his fault. He had a cuddle and we dearly love him so much. It end it was quick.

We looking at getting another cat tomorrow from RSPCA the vets we use keep cats for them. We got Charlie our last cat from there.

I know its soon but we would get another anyway whether its tomorrow or next week

House seems to quite with out Charlie, everything centered around him he was such a lovable boy

We spent most of this evening cleaning to keep our minds active

Sorry to hear, but when it is done with love - after all it wasn't by the sound of it a question of 'if' but 'when'.

As to another one, that's up to you - it may help to pick one that looks totally different. My first one was a tabby, then a grey and white, now a calico.

Though, if you delay, it may give you more time to grieve, which might not be a bad thing.

    Good luck.

Your right it was only a question of time he was going to go probably weeks and he would be miserable. We miss him so much I know we made right decision but it hurts. I cant help think could we have done more but he did have a poor immune system even before kidney issues, and probably had that quite a while.

We been to vets to see cats today and we finally picked one it was a tough choice though we liked majority of them

I'm not being crass in any way but 'better a week too soon than a day too late'.
I don't believe anyone takes these decisions lightly, in fact we angst so much and constantly question our choice, often forgetting the full and beautiful lives we've given them.

It is quality of life not quantity.

Enjoy your new feline friend to the full x

    Sorry to hear, savemoney.

My update. My Bugsy went downhill fast. Rang the vet on Sunday morning, she said it would be quicker to take him in rather than she come here. He is buried in the garden. I have two other cats so won't be getting another. Feeling very sad.
