I use jam in a few simple ways .... jam/toast, blob of jam with rice pudding, jam/scone, jam sandwich, jam sponge pudding.
But I do like to eat a lot of different things, so I might only have jam/toast twice a year, jam/rice pud 4x a year, jam/scone is rare as I'd not bought scones for 20 years then bought two 50p packs 1-2 months ago so shoved jam on them, jam sandwich I've made 1-2 in the last 5 years, jam sponge pudding I made 2-3 last winter.
I like jam ... but there is so much food in the world, instantly available, that you can't fit it all in just because you like something0 -
I'm not a Jam fan either.
On toast, I prefer marmalade but I think the jar I have in the fridge is at least 9 months old and still 3 quarters full.
I've not had any for a while so no doubt it is beginning to mould over.'I'm sinking in the quicksand of my thought
And I ain't got the power anymore'0 -
Starving. Breakfast will probably, eventually, be toast, eggs, beans, hash browns.
Still got 1/3rd of a loaf and it's dated today, so that'd better go into the freezer later.0 -
PN when I read about you having eggs, toast, beans, hash browns for breakfast, sounds lovely. Reality is that even if I have all that stuff in which I don't, it wouldn't get done just now.
I think that I must be a right weird person re eating. I don't like baked beans served with anything other than just toast with butter, although do like some grated cheese over at times. Don't like them on the toast, as it goes soggy. Toast has to be cold before it gets buttered. Don't eat butter and jam/marmalade together. Hate butter put in the middle of a baked potato. I have the butter at the side, and have a little with each piece of potato. If the plate is hot, butter goes on a saucer or tea plate, so that it doesn't melt. I eat pizza with a knife and fork, which irks my daughter greatly, won't eat it out of the box, has to be on a plate. I've got the cheek to think that I'm not a fussy eater.Just writing all that down shows the exact opposite!
Karcher, exactly the way I used to be with jam/marmalade. I love Rose's lime marmalade and Hartley's pineapple jam, but I'd have it once or twice and then the jar would languish forever, and end up hairy mouldy.
Not had breakfast yet, think it will be a Cypriot breakfast again.0 -
Now it's just struck me that I literally can't think of an equivalent for a baked potato with lots of butter on it:cool:.
Yep....I do like a nice baked potato - well-done (darn those restaurant ones that are either not done enough or have obviously hung around for a while). It's got to be with crispy skin and lots of butter on it and a good grind of salt. It helps a lot if it's a decent "brand" of potato too. Now wondering whether I should try growing my own...will have to create some more growing space before I can do that...0 -

What about olive oil, preferably a flavoured one? I do like a baked potato with truffle oil, which got me thinking of other flavoured oils. Perhaps some of the vegans on here, can give you better ideas. No idea what vegan butter tastes like, perhaps it's ok?
Baked potato definitely has to have a crispy skin, good grind of salt and good grind of black pepper too for moi.
You can grow potatoes in deep buckets, we used to grow new potatoes for harvesting around Christmas in our old dustbin as well as in deep planters. Just keep adding more soil/compost periodically as the leaves come through.0 -
MITSTM - interesting vegan butter recipe using aquafaba.

A big vote up for L1dl hash browns. Much bigger than the ones I bought the other week (Iceland cheapies) .... probably could even have just one each time instead of two.0

I just had some yoghurt and berries for breakfast and have just had a banana.
Lunch will be a cheese and salad sandwich, possibly with some salad on the side (I've got a few salad bits that really need to be used today), I don't really fancy salad though, but don't want to waste it.
Dinner will be another portion of the goulash I made yesterday. I think I'll have that with some new potatoes and veg. That will leave one portion which I will freeze. Although I'm trying not to use up what little space there is in the freezer I don't think I want to eat goulash three days running0 -
You just know how much you rely on a freezer not to have absolutely Repeat Eating all the time and you have a garden when you've managed to jam pack a freezer that's about 6' tall:rotfl:. It was pretty full anyway - but now I've had a glut of strawberries, have currently got a glut of assorted berries and the rhubarb glut is now here too....
It's no surprise my dream home has a utility room as well as a kitchen.......and then I could have another freezer...:rotfl:. I think there might be a flaw in that somewhere though:cool: - as my dream home would also have a rather larger garden (ie more growing space)...0
