Dinner today was a reduced salad bowl, originally £3 but bought for 20p  . Had that with the following mashed/mixed up; half a tin of chickpeas, half an avocado, some vegan mayo, onion and a bit of pepper and apple cider vinegar.
Rather filling. Though as it was an early dinner I will likely snack later.

Edit - yeah I snacked. Flax seed crackers, some Alpro icecream (bought when on offer) with caramel rice cakes. Oh and because of the jam talk I got a teaspoon and had a spoon right from a jar I have, cheap Lidl one.

    Morning everyone,
I wanted a change for breakfast this morning, and was considering having beans on toast, because I fancied it, but the prospect of half a tin of beans left over put me off that in the end. Typical CFO problem. So in the end I decided to have some porridge, bit boring really.

Lunch will be a cheese and pickle sandwich. I need to use up the cheese, or freeze some. At least I no longer have a salad mountain. I will buy some more salad bits at the end of the week. I still have tomatoes, which I will always use.

Dinner will be sausages and mash with onion gravy and steamed veg. I'm looking forward to that it will be a nice change. I don't know how long these sausages have been in the freezer so thought I had better use them up. There is still another 10 portions in there

Lunch today was steamed spuds topped with cheese/beans (like jacket spuds, but steamed and not put in the oven).

I bought the spuds last week, so need to at least break the back of those... beans were already opened .... cheese I'd already grated.

"onigirazu" I had to Google that, not sure I would like it but never having had it perhaps it is tastier than my same old cheese salady sarnie?

Was going to do all sorts today, but never did, I decided to get on and carry on scanning an ARP log book just for posteriety really, so it is not forgotten. For instance, 6th February 1941 School children at Social Club – Gas mask inspection - 9 March 1941 Heavy raid on Portsmouth

Log is not mine BTW, I'm not that old :)

[STRIKE]Mooching round the garden [/STRIKE] Inspecting the estate I spotted the runners are nearly there and expect my first taste will be sometime this week, Tues or Wed probably. Just need to think of a suitable easyish meal to have them with, I have a pig chop in the freezer, seems like a plan brewing there

And following the recent figgy talk by AM I checked mine. I have one ready to go, in the conservatory, that will be scoffed some time this week as well

    Nil breakfast again
Same old cheesey sarnie. May plop some HM chutney instead of salad on tomorrow's one. Plus slice of the apple tart topped with Greek yoghurt

Dinner I just cannot decide, like PN "And I've NO idea whatsoever what on earth I could eat for tea/later. Completely stumped. I have food - I simply don't fancy anything I've got :)"

Could be large baked spud with grated cheese & beans [on top not side :p]. I fancy baked spud drowned with chili beef, but no chance of the latter. I can see me finishing up with beans on buttered soggy toast

Tried out the idea for using silken tofu in a smoothie and that was the basis of lunch today - silken tofu/milk/several different fruits all blitzed up together.

Been in Aldi for other things and, whilst there, spotted "trays" of assorted living lettuce for £1-something.

Only a halfway house, in my case, to organic - as they weren't started off as organic plants (give it another 5 years Money I tell myself im-patiently waiting for more supermarket food to be organic). Still - it's halfway towards - as they are basically plug plants and will be treated organically from here on in by me. So that has just been planted up in my garden and, give it a couple of weeks and I should be able to start eating it. There was enough plug plants I could have shared one of those "trays" with someone else I feel - but...oh well....managed to find enough bare earth in garden to plant it all up. I have yet to get a pack of mixed salad leaves that I manage to finish in time before it goes off - if only because I can't stand doing too much "repeat eating".

:Dand there's vegan food fairs "doing the rounds" in this part of the country. So I should be able to get to one soon - and much experimenting coming up. I have a theory that many of us have such long lives these days (80/90 years) compared to our ancestors that we basically have to re-invent ourselves (well at least the peripheral aspects - like the way we eat) 2 or 3 times in a lifetime not to "expire of boredom". Hence glad to have another way of eating recently become fashionable - and more experimenting available for me.

Now what I really want is for book publishers to "get their act together" and realise there are millions of single people/catering individually people out there and start doing a LOT more cookbooks with single person quantities in the recipes. I don't honestly see why the default setting for cookbooks is still quantities for 4 people - and think it's about time they updated to a default setting of quantities for 1 person. After all - it's a lot easier to multiply up quantities for extra people than to cut back on them (has anyone ever wondered exactly what to do with half an egg for instance?).

Another compliment this morning about losing weight:D - so slanting things more that way is obviously paying dividends. I might have a "figure" again soon:D

The reason the books aren't written is there's not much market/money in it.

If you're going to spend X hours writing, Y hours photographing and £Z printing/distributing a cookery book then it needs the biggest market reach.

Those who have tried have mostly failed because us CFOs get into our little rut and are loathe to waste cash on hitherto unheard of ingredients, nor take more than 10 minutes to toss something edible into a pile that can be eaten (plates are optional extras).

    :)

Many things that ARE written are just fluff/smoke/screens/mirrors and are just sold to people they can sweep up in some "movement" or buzz word.

Any one of us COULD write a cook book on CFO .... except none of the rest of us would ever buy it because .... we all actually eat differently :)

While the numbers of single households are huge, we're all "individuals" who pretty much know what we're doing, we just can't be bothered when it's "just for me".

I had to google Onigirazu too! Think that I would like it, as I like the veggie sushi at a restaurant here which is made with avocado.

MITSTM - well done on losing weight, great to get compliments.

I've only had breakfast so far, but was so late it was really brunch. Same old boiled egg, tomato, olives and slice of home made tomato and garlic bread, which I made yesterday - just substituted garlic and linseed instead of olives for a wee change.
Went out really early, did a wee spot of shopping, soda water, tomatoes and mango, and ended up with a pair of sandals too! Amazing what they sell in the little markets here. Needed bottled water, so up to the village to fill up my bottles for the cooler. Was all done and dusted and home by 8:30.
Water man came to fill up the pool, then my sheep friend popped in with his tractor to have a natter and a coffee, and filled me in with village news. Daughter and grand daughter then Face Timed me....before I knew it was noon, and finally had my breakfast!
Siesta this afternoon. 41C in the shade when I got up around 4pm. Much better now at 36C, and now have a lovely cooling breeze. :D

Really must do housework tomorrow, also haul my outdoor fan outside, or rather ask for help to get it outside, it's very heavy, and no way can I lift it.

PN - Think that you have it summed up really well regarding cookery books for one. I'd be wanting a veggie book, although happy with vegan too. You'd be wanting a magic one step recipe for crumpets, mince or steak pies etc. Actually, think we all would at times, when we just CBA.

Decided that with the crunchy salad, will be having halloumi cheese tonight, so will just dry fry that for a minute or two.

Really wish my oven was working properly as would make some quiche, as that would be nice for a wee change. Really don't want the wee repair man to be sweltering trying to fix it just now....I would have major guilt issues! Especially, as the halogen does me quite well normally, but never tried to make quiche in it. If any of you have successfully done quiche in a halogen, would love to hear.
Suppose I could do a big veggie Spanish tortilla and slice up.

PN You mentioned a pastry free quiche....how do you make that please? And, do you think I could make it in the halogen?

Not that I could make one now anyway, as have two eggs left, must get some later in the week. Forgot this morning.
