Cooking for one

I didn't fancy the food I've got, so took a wander to l1dl. I'm not a "lasagne fan", but I did notice that single portion was £3.67/Kg, whereas the one twice the size was about £2.45/Kg or so. That irks me.
I'm not a fan of their sausage rolls, I couldn't get quiche as I had that last week (many times) and I didn't fancy a whole family pie. Instead, I thought I'd try their "minced beef/onion slices", 2 for 99p. Just heated/ate the first one (with some instant mash & beans)....and it's not something I'll buy again, something odd about the taste... but I've the second one to eat still.... *sighs*.
Wish I'd gone for the pies now.... oh well.0 -

Tonight was definitely CBA CFO mode - cornish pasty with mushrooms and courgette. One oven tray and a quick squirt of oil over the veg which I didn't even chop. Was tasty;)0 -
PN if that drawer idea of yours would work, that would be a good solution. Noted for questions to be asked later, when I get round to the refurbishment.
CaronC, both my Gran and my parents had something very similar, but in different colours, along with the statutory formica table with drop leaves. In fact my uncle, who still lives in Gran's house, only recently got rid, when he put in a new kitchen. Nearly forgot the pulley clothes rack thing too! Everyone seemed to have those. Was a nightmare negotiating the kitchen when it was loaded with washing such as towels or sheets.
MITSTM - Ceramic pans are great. I've now got three, omelette pan, frying pan, and a small wok, and you really hardly need any fat at all.
Finally forced myself to eat something about 7 pm, as didn't want to be fainting from lack of food, as hadn't eaten since lunch time yesterday. Chinese noodles with 7 Thai spice powder and a splosh of soy sauce. Hardly the healthiest thing on the planet, but did the job, and took just a few minutes. Going to get a load of fruit tomorrow and make up a salad to keep in the fridge. Know that I will pick away at that if I don't fancy anything else.0 -

I so agree with you on this. It is one thing that really bugs meYet again, us singles have to spend more or eat a double portion if it's something that can't be halved and one half saved or frozen.

Have you tried any of the A*di pies? I am going there tomorrow or Wednesday and it's something on my list that I have got a craving for at the moment.0 -
.... all your clothes smelt of what had been cooked that week ...
Which was probably boiled cabbage. We used to have a LOT of boiled cabbage, it was practically a staple. I do love cabbage. I've even had a plate of cabbage and mash with gravy as a whole meal before
I've probably not eaten cabbage for about 20 years .... because they're too big and that's a LOT of "fancying it".0 -

From memory - I can't remember ... except one "special one" that was reduced the other week, when I decided that I'd rather choose the mince/onion pie next time. I don't think I've got round to an 4ldi pie yet ...or maybe I have and forgot right now. I've got some notes I can look at.
I prefer a slice of family sized pie to an individual one most of the time, else you get pastry overload. I LOVE pastry, but I also like a good amount of filling, so the ratio has to be right - and I think family sized pies get that ratio right more often than you find in individual pies.0 -
Well I added to the calorie/junk food intake with another couple of crumpets and butter and some chocolate
I also had a small portion of some haddock and salad, so I have had something of nutritional value. On the plus side, I'm feeling better now and a bit more upbeat
. Tomorrow is another day, and I can go back to normal eating then.
I'm going to go to either A*di or T*sco tomorrow to get a few new things to try. I'll take trolley (still unnamed) and go to one tomorrow and one Wednesday.0 -

I'm glad you said this, I wouldn't have thought about that, but you're right, if you buy a small one there is a lot of pastry compared to getting a big one and dividing it up. I will definitely got a large one. It will probably be more cost effective as wellI will see if there are any in the y/s section. If there are that will no doubt influence my decision on which one I buy
Got to try and get value
