I was watching the programme last night and thinking that meat looked lovely and tender from it. I didn't know you could do veg as well but t it's quite logical really0

That had me googling already for the day Caron - right I'm now clear on what a sous vide is.
Admission time - I've got some fancy kitchen stuff too. A dehydrator (yep...it's an Excalibur), a Vitamix blender and a Green Star food processor. Bigger admission time - I use the dehydrator and frequently use the Vitamix. Errrrrm....the bigger admission being I have never yet used the Green Star:o. I think I'd better - considering just how much it cost me:o. Even bigger admission - I've got an ordinary food processor (not used very much) and there's all these spiralisers around now since I bought that Green Star (with the intention of using the spiraliser function that wasnt yet available basically in this country).
I've got no excuse now have I? - now I'm all properly set-up with new kitchen etc....:cool:0 -
I've a £5 toaster and £25 nuker.
Between them they just made my breakfast of beans/scrambled eggs on toast
That's the last of the 45p loaf I bought - it was tricky getting some slices into the toaster though (had to cut the crust off a couple of bits)... but I've opened a tin of beans, so there are now two more portions of beans in the fridge to be ploughed through...
....and all that salad stuff's still lurking... so lunch today will have to be piling the whole lot into one big bowl, getting a big spoon and just eating itThat's: orzo/tuna/sweetcorn and couscous and coleslaw. They really need to be eaten today else I'll simply "not fancy them" and they'll be looking a bit grim and dog-eared.
I also need to freeze that sweetcorn asap as it's over half a tin and been sitting in the fridge for two days now since I opened it (I always put things straight away into plastic/lidded pots to keep them clean/tidy/safe).
Not sure if I'll use one of the bread rolls I've got today (3 in the bag of 4), but 2-3 of those need to go into the freezer today if not eaten.
Still 2 tomatoes, but they've got ages to go yet.0 -

Nope you've no excuse now not to be using your gadgets. I'm rather hoping my boys get me a dehydrator for my birthday - I've dropped a few hints LOLPasturesNew wrote: »I've a £5 toaster and £25 nuker.
Sounds like mine - they do the job so I don't need anything more expensive. I've also a cheap kettle as I've found they last just as long as dearer ones.
I woke up at 5.30 this morning, went to the loo and thought I might manage another hour's sleep. Fast forward and it's after 9 and my Dad is at the back door......... So unusual for me to do that but now I've got myself sorted out I do feel the better for it:). Consequently I've had no breakfast so will just have an early lunch after Tesco has been:).0 -
This is the problem if you've never been in a position to graduate from what for most couples and families is a 'first home' - you're stuck with a kitchen that has no space for gadgets. Even if cupboard space could be found elsewhere most then need a flat surface to operate which would then mean no surface to prepare the stuff for the gadget or to put it when it comes out the other end.
I know the wisdom is that you don't need anywhere big if you're a singly but I'd so love a big kitchen and a utility even if I still had just one bedroom!
Well today I made it to the big Mr T which doesn't happen too often. Little was found in the way of bargains but as I stayed for coffee there I picked up the free magazine. I have to say I was very impressed and got some ideas for food that looks quite healthy and some of it quite easy.So am thinking my first foray might be into savoury muffins so I can cut down on the sweet stuff.:)
…slight delay though because as I had finished shopping I couldn't face going round again looking for the ingredients:(0 -

I've a 2-up-2-down ... and I'll be extending the ground floor next year and I'll have ALL that required space that you get in a 3-bed. The whole shebang.... downstairs loo/shower (future proofing) and a generous utility for drying clothes indoors, sorting out stuff, hobbies, clearouts and crafts/whatever.....I stayed for coffee

Yes. Finding unfamiliar ingredients on unfamiliar shelves could have really put you off wanting to make anything - so then you'd arrive home frazzled, two ingredients short - and no wish to EVER make that dish in your life after what you've just been through0 -
I got a bowl ..... and went to the fridge and emptied all that salad into it. All the couscous, all the coleslaw, all the orzo/tuna .... and I left a well in the middle and dropped two large spoons of cold beans in for "liquid value".
Ate the lot. It was fine/edible - and quite nice tasting in their own right - but I just didn't fancy any of it, nor all of it, nor all of it together in one bowl, right now.
It's over though...... it's Friday and the weekend - and I can feel "free" to make a new food choice if I so wish.
I didn't retain the coleslaw thinking "I will cook a burger to carry that".
I froze all three of the bread rolls I'd bought.
All the salads are gone.
I can choose ....of sorts .... what's next.
Trouble is ... in the world of somebody who can't make decisions ... what IS next???0 -
I am immensely benefited to get the above link. This is really an excellent article. Thank you so much.0

Glad you have got rid of all the salads, you sounded like you were getting a bit fed up of them.
I know what you mean about decisions. I'm one of those people. I posted a status on Facebook earlier saying "Decisions...Decisions...I can't decide - yet again"0 -
