The sausagemeat has defrosted, but I really can't face it. Tummy is making a gnawing pain.... so eventually I will snap and I'll go and sort the sausagemeat into little balls and knock up a chilli/tomato sauce ... and then do some spaghetti. I just hate the idea of touching that raw sausagemeat (or most meats) ... so it's a stand off at the moment.0 -
For lunch I am getting a bit fed up with always cheese salady sarnie, and fancied something a bit warming as well. Used the last egg up and made a fried egg sarnie plus the last freezer burnt crust was toasted while waiting for the egg to burn, still managed to dribble some yolk on my T shirt though
As a newcomer to this thread I'm unsure how long you've been having the same cheese salad sandwich for lunch. Or if it's to use cheese up? If it's lack of inspiration maybe we could all come up with some ideas? Btw I love fish finger butties they just hit the spot sometimes
I have made a corner beef pie for tea once I'd found the rolled up pastry in the freezer. Cooked a couple of potatoes, carrots and onion together then semi mashed with extra chopped onion, a tin of chopped up corned beef and a crumbled stock cube. One sheet of ready rolled pastry makes 2 servings so I'll have one half for tea tonight with peas and gravy and the other for lunch tomorrow with beans and tomato sauce to ring the changes0 -

I'm a veggie so don't ever touch meat with bare hands. I also don't even like the feel of it through vinyl gloves.
Firstly, I put the plug in the sink, fill it with water, washing up liquid and bleach....
Then I put a couple of layers of newspaper on the work surface and put the container of meat on that.
Using two forks (one in each hand) I get the meat out of the container and onto a small chopping board or into a bowl. I then use the forks (or two spoons if shaping meatballs) to prepare the meat "hands free".
I then wipe the excess off the utensils onto the paper and place them into the filled sink to soak (later removing them wearing my washing up gloves) for another 'clean' wash.
Paper in the bin - bleach solution rinse of worktop and hands - job done.
I worry about cross-contamination from the raw meat (bacteria) so this puts my mind at rest.:hello:0 -

Sandwiches - hmmm....and there's another reason to buy some more carrots.
Suggestion time - hummus and grated carrot as a sandwich filler?
Reminds me - there is supposed to be a vegan "tuna style" sandwich filling made with chickpeas. Has our resident vegan on this thread done that ever - and, if so, what's it like?:)
Thinks - maybe I should hard-boil a couple of eggs too - more possibilities....0 -
I did the sausage/chilli thing ... tongue/lips currently burning off
It was lovely tasting... once I'd got past the raw meat.
I just opened the pack and then used a knife to cut it through into little squares/pieces.... then picked up the foil it'd been wrapped in and dropped the lot into the jug to cook it
I'm glad that's gone from the freezer... it was one of those things lurking that I wish'd I'd never bought. The end result is tasty ... I just hate the part where you go from raw meat to cooked meat. It can still be a mental challenge to eat meat, I'm easily put off eating it half way through.... it's why I rarely bother with it.
I'll stick to good old beef burgers in future... not so horrendous mentally.
I think I have an issue with pork in the main. I don't like pork in most of its guises, not a hock, a gammon, sliced ham, bacon .... so sausages are at the limit of my ability to eat it ... and they're a struggle as I grew up in the 1960s when we had to eat nasty gristley sausages
P.S. re the suggestions for latex/similar gloves. While that'd also gross me out a bit - I've TINY hands, so it'd be an awkward fit - and then there's that embarrassing moment as you walk round with them in your basket, then queue, then get them in front of the cashier and you just wonder if they're thinking "Aaaah, so madam's into some kinky sex then! I see! Doesn't look the sort .... wonder if she's got pampas grass in her front garden ... " and other thoughts they might be having. So there'd be a high embarrassment factor0 -

I've just had an interesting couple of hours (NOT) I started to tidy out a cupboard and was heading to the wheelie bin to off load some junk as the rain had eased a bit when I noticed a pane had blown out of my greenhouse. Of course do I have any clips of duct tape nope so it's a bodge it job of parcel & masking tape just hope it holds. Consequently tidying has ceased and it's been bunged back in:o
After last night's dishwasher fiasco the "niff" has moved to under the floor - it's where the pipe runs under the floor of the extension to the drain so I think the drain might be playing up that or there is a dead mouse under the floor .
I think I might be having a gin or large glass of red with my dinner..........0 -
Re pampas grass. One of my Mum's v straight laced friends has two in each garden:D My mind is truly boggled :rotfl:"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

I've bought things in the past as well that I have wished I had never bought. Whatever it is always seems to be right there every time I open the door of the freezer.0 -
My next but one neighbour has a huge pampas grass - she's in her 80s but one never can tell........;) Car keys in the fruit bowl please madam......:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0
