Paying for overnight guests in rented flat?!
Comments

I had no problems going from a shared flat to renting a one bed in zone 3 on my own. It is a higher proportion of your income, but I thought the price was worth paying for peace, privacy, and not having to look at my housemate's boyfriend's pants drying in the kitchen. You may need to sign up with more agencies; if you're a presentable well spoken female in a professional job I think that helps. They are an EYESORES!!!!0

Water is included in the cost of the rent0

Out, Vile Jelly: I am indeed professional and well spoken (I hope) and a woman, so that should help...0

It's a tough cookie, personally when I moved to London I had a look at different areas and decided to move where it was convenient for commuting and within my budget; I did set a budget not because of money constraints but because it's easy to go overboard.
I was happy to settle in the SE, because my life is quiet, I don't really care for late night tube rides, etc
If the AST has a break clause (or you can insist to have one) after 6 months you can pack and go, it's a studio, whether furnished or not, it'll be an easy move unless you're a hoarder!
If you're stretched with money with this flat already, maybe this peculiar arrangement is a 'warning sign' from your lucky stars telling you maybe it's best if you sit tight another month, evaluate your priorities and then move. Instead of sharing a room divided by a thin wall, you could share a flat and have your own room for much less than this rent.
London is a tough city unless you have a good wage and it's best if you save a little for rainy days rather than get into debt for just living in the city.
Unfortunately London is the embodiment of debt, it runs on debt from HB to taxpayer funded banker bailouts to over-leveraged landlords trying to make a quick buck, saturated in debt from top to bottom. To the OP, I would ask for a receipt every time he charges the £5, I`m sure "overnight fees" will be the PPI of the future......:money:0 -
You shouldn't just be walking, you should be running....0

Aside from being unnecessarily rude, how would the LL like to enforce this clause?
Unannounced inspections?
Waiting outside the front door?
Im serious
Well since you persist...
The tenant has their other half over every night for a month and the LL is none the wiser.
The tenant then dumps the other half for their best friend, much to the disgust of said dumpee.
The dumpee, on packing his/her bags and vacating, bumps into the LL and reveals their month long shag fest.
The LL is now aware and has evidence of the term being breached.
No stalking has occurred.
The problem you seem to be having is the distinction between a term which cannot legally be enforced because it is unfair and one which can be legally enforced but is difficult to provide evidence for.
When you get difficulty that sorted out, feel free to comment on the question of whether the term itself is fair.

Can you point out where I said it was unenforceable??Well since you persist...

Just hire a DJ and charge £5 on the door, that should calm him down.0

This was a depressing read. I hadn't heard of Rachmanism until now.0
