Missing out on school trips

I understand where you are coming from, your children are upset and no parent enjoys that. I would also be massively disappointed. Our junior school has just announced a summer overnight school trip, and my son is delighted, really excited, so I do get it.
In your position I would be making enquiries, trying to get the kids on the trip, but if it wasn't possible, then I would chalk it up to experience and take a 'that's life' sort of approach, demonstrating how to deal with it. As others have said, sometimes things just don't go your way.0 -

They have since started at the school and I haven't heard anything about these trips, until today.
They have both come home very upset as forms were handed out to those who will be attending.
I can't understand why you didn't ask about these trips as soon as the children started at school.
I also find it hard to believe that the children who are going on the trip have said nothing about it - no comments about how it won't be long now, I'm excited about going away, I'm getting some new clothes, etc.0 -
I went to France on a school trip in 1983, I came home with nits.Nutty am I :rotfl:0

I do find it odd that the trips were all organised and paid for before the school year even started. In my experience, parents are alerted before a child enters the year group and possibly asked to put their name down provisionally with a small deposit.
Then come September everything gets firmed up, parents are told they can pay in instalments and regular correspondence goes home plus meetings nearer the time and lists of clothes to pack etc.
All that being said, maybe if the visits were fully subscribed and paid up early then there genuinely isn't any space. But there is only one way to find out and that's to ask. I agree with others, do it politely and reasonably. It's not the end of the world. Surely you didn't just choose the school on the basis that it has good trips?0 -
Well that's me told
I agree when I posted I was very upset as both children were crying and upset. All sorted after speaking to the school (rationally). They have managed to squeeze them in.
Thank you for making me see how over the top I was feeling.Proud to be dealing with my debts0 -

Ah no worries hippy chick , that's what life does to us all - winds us up about stuff ! One good thing about the internet is you can have a rant anonymously and get your perspective back .
Glad it all turned out fine0 -
