If it was all booked last academic year and your kids only started the school in September was it all booked before they started? Or after and they weren't told about it?

Are you overreacting? Yes. If it was all booked before your kids started the school what is there to complain about

I'd ring school but I wouldn't accuse HT of lying.

This really should have been sorted out in the first few weeks of them starting school. If no letter had come home about it, then was the time to follow it up.

It may be that all the places are taken, especialyl for the trip abroad but ask the question.
  • Just ask if there is a waiting list in case of cancellations.

If there are fewer places on the trips than children in the class, and if the trips are in weekday term time, the school will probably have a Plan B for the children who couldn't go. Find out what that is - could be local visits to museums or nature reserves, or preparing a play from scratch or an art / craft project or sports they don't usually get to do?

Hi I'm after a bit of perspective and advice if you don't mind. My children started a new junior school in September due to us moving house. Last July we were shown around the school by the headteacher who told us all about the residential trips every year group had the chance to go on. My daughter who was going into year 4 could go on an overnight residential trip and my son who was going into year 6 would have the opportunity to go to France for a week.

They have since started at the school and I haven't heard anything about these trips, until today. They have both come home very upset as forms were handed out to those who will be attending. Apparently it was all organised and paid for last academic year!!!! My children are beside themselves that they cannot go away with all their new friends. I am distraught to see them so upset. I am absolutely fuming with the head teacher who I feel basically lied to us when showing us around the school. I will be ringing the school tomorrow to clarify that everything was actually all booked last academic year and I want to complain. My children are so upset and I am so so angry. Am I over reacting?

Or you could just speak to them rationally and ask if there is anything that can be done to accommodate your children on the trips that were booked before they even started at the school. I can't imagine anyone going out of their way to help if you go in all guns blazing with accusations of lying. Massive over-reaction.

Yes, Life isn't an episode of Eastenders, where everything has to be a big drama. Your kids started school, they didn't join in the academic year the trip was organised.
If these trips were such a big selling point, you've had months to ask the teachers/head about them.
Ask to be put on the cancelllations list and ask what provisions there are for children left behind.

Also, I just thought - he probably has no idea about the organisation/dates etc, he just knows it happens .... and somebody else does the organising etc.

This is likely to be close to the mark op.
I would give them a call to ask if they can add your children on or put them on a reserve list .

If it was so important why didn't you ask when they started there.... Im genuinely baffled about this kind of reaction

You want to complain as you didn't get organised to ask about these trips as soon as they started as there might have been a chance at that point?

    Erm, no, get a grip

    Yes you are.
Tell your children to buck up and look forward to next year.
