Missing out on school trips

Hi I'm after a bit of perspective and advice if you don't mind. My children started a new junior school in September due to us moving house. Last July we were shown around the school by the headteacher who told us all about the residential trips every year group had the chance to go on. My daughter who was going into year 4 could go on an overnight residential trip and my son who was going into year 6 would have the opportunity to go to France for a week.
They have since started at the school and I haven't heard anything about these trips, until today. They have both come home very upset as forms were handed out to those who will be attending. Apparently it was all organised and paid for last academic year!!!! My children are beside themselves that they cannot go away with all their new friends. I am distraught to see them so upset. I am absolutely fuming with the head teacher who I feel basically lied to us when showing us around the school. I will be ringing the school tomorrow to clarify that everything was actually all booked last academic year and I want to complain. My children are so upset and I am so so angry. Am I over reacting?

Yes you are!Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -
Hugely. When he showed you round he wasn't trying to micromanage your family diary - and, until your kids actually turned up, he might've never seen you ever again.
Write him a nice letter explaining that you understand you missed the cut off point, but is there any way your kids could be slotted in if anybody had a last minute cancellation.
This is a great lesson for your kids to learn that you can't always have what you thought you were getting. Then distract them with something shiny.0 -
what if there were x amount of places on the trips and they have already been taken up by the kids who were in situ prior to your kids arrival.
what do you hope to achieve by throwing your/your kids toys out of your respective prams? maybe upsetting the school faculty, which of course is probably not a good move.
chill out and get them on next years trip/sLive each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -
Not unusual for trips to be organised and paid for well in advance.
Was the time to check not last September when they started the school?0 -
Also, I just thought - he probably has no idea about the organisation/dates etc, he just knows it happens .... and somebody else does the organising etc.0

You need to calm down.
Not a good role model to show your children how to cope with "stuff"make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Yes, an over reaction ..... For your childrens sake please dont start ranting and complaining over the phone about this .... Its a non-issue and will only highlight you as a parent to avoid in the future. Im sure there will be other trips0

Distraught? Really? I'd normally save that word for something a bit more substantial than missing a school trip.
Absolutely fuming? Children 'beside themselves'?
MASSIVE overreaction.
Speak with the head teacher and ask her if there is an opportunity to get your children onto the trip - I'm sure she will help if she can... and if you appear reasonable and not go charging in all red faced and raving.
If your children cannot be accommodated then it will be an ideal opportunity for them to learn the 'you can't always get what you want' lesson.
A win-win all round.:hello:0 -
Speak to them and ask if they can be slotted in.
We moved house 6 weeks before the end of year 6 and my sons new school managed to get him a place on their end of year trip which was just 2 weeks after he started. I'm sure if it can be done they will try for you.Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)
December £361.54, November £322.28, October £288.52, September £374.30, August £223.95, July £71.45, June £251.22, May£119.33, April £236.24, March £106.74, Feb £40.99, Jan £98.54) Total for 2017 - £2,495.100
