    Phones (which includes iPhones) left with an extremely low state of charge for long periods can go dead and fail to charge, I've seen it hundreds of times over the years.

    By the way, I don't think you understand what DOA stands for, it's dead on arrival, if you didn't open the parcel and check the phone in October you have no idea if it was DOA or not...

    Im just not sure as to the logic as its discontinued from the iOS Update cycle & probably has been since around iOS 8
