Hi,
On 1st Nov 2016 a guy crashed into the back of me, i then shunted the car in front of me. I came off the worst. The car in front of me hasn't made a claim as yet, although there didn't appear to be any damage to her car at the time. At the time we all exchanged details and left the scene.
I reported the incident to my insurer within 2 hours. My car was repaired within a week and i had to pay £350 excess whilst the liability is validated.
It's now 10th Jan 2017 and my insurer is telling me they've contacted the insurer for the guy who went into the back of me and they said they've not heard anything about this incident!
Has anyone had any experience of this taking so long and suggest anything to move things along?

I have been helping an elderly couple I know with a claim like this and the insurance company said to me - "oh well it is a shame that she was hit by a van as it will take ages going through a fleet policy".
I felt like screaming at him but I think that the claims process is going to speed up as they appear to be getting tired of my twice weekly chase up and whinge phone calls.0 -
Someone drove in to me on 18th August. Received the settlement cheque on 20th December. No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0

Your excess isn't covered by your insurer. It is an uninsured lossHi,

It's normally down to the policyholder to recover their uninsured losses themselves from the liable third party.
You can start this now. If you have legal cover use that, otherwise diy.0 -

However the insurance company needs to cover their losses from the third party before you can so it is in your interest to chase up your insurance company.
Here is another thread that discusses recovering your uninsured losses - https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/55840630 -

According to the op the third party insurer is unaware of the incident.
Therefore the OP needs to set the wheels running by getting his claim in for his uninsured losses now.
Getting your uninsured losses reimbursed is separate from the insurers getting reimbursed whatever they are claiming for.0 -

I agree that the OP does need to get his claim in for his uninsured losses.
However if the third party insurers had not been notified of the claim at all then that is very odd as the OP's insurers have not tried to recoup their losses from the third party insurers, which is what normally happens during the claims process.
Once the OP's insurers have recouped their losses from the third party insurers the liability for the accident has been settled and therefore it is a simple process for the OP to recoup their uninsured losses from the third party insurers as well.0 -

There is no need for anyone to await the settlement between the insurers.
(All that is required is for the third party to agree liability)
There may be a dispute between the insurers delaying settlement between them, but that is irrelevant to the OP (who only needs to prove his uninsured losses, not the claim submitted by his insurer which could be disputed)0 -

I can see what you are saying but I have never known a third party insurer pay out a claim for uninsured losses before they have settled the liability with the other party's insurer.0 -
Well.....all that is necessary for uninsured losses to be dealt with is for liability to be agreed, which is quite separate to agreeing the cost of the claimPersianCatLady wrote: »...... (All claims by innocent third parties who don't have comprehensive cover are for uninsured losses aren't they??)0 -
