They don't 'need' to but I bet they will because it's in their interests to stall and prevaricate as long as possible. That's the reality.
That is exactly the point I was trying to make when I said that it was best to first speak to your insurer's and see where they were on recuperating their losses first.
Contacting the third party insurers direct without knowing how your own insurers have settled the claim is the wrong way to go about it.
For all the OP knows, their insurers may have decided (although I do not see why) to treat the incident as being the OP's fault.
If the OP's insurers are treating the claim as being the third party's fault, then to me I would question why they are not trying to recoup their own losses from them.0 -

I tried that with one of my incidents. Albany (un)Assistance who were 'handling' the claim said 'We have written to the other party's insurer but have had no response. We have to give them 3 months to respond'! ....and meanwhile I was driving around in a damaged car. At this point I decided to take matters into my own hands and claim all my costs directly from the TP (letter before court action) who shortly afterwards reported the incident and I was able to get my repairs done by dealing directly with TP's insurer thankfully by-passing Albany.0 -

I see what you are saying but in this case the OP's insurers have already paid out on the claim. If the third party was at fault then the insurers can recoup their money from the third party insurers. If this has not been done I would be enquiring with my insurers what was going on because it could (but shouldn't) be that the insurers have treated the OP as being at fault.0 -

A straightforward claim takes months to be completed - the OP probably needs to be more patient if waiting for his insurer to be reimbursed! (Bearing in mind this is a multiple shunt) Or be proactive and get things moving himself as has been suggested0
