Re radiator - You can get kickstrip heaters in electric, hydronic (plumbed in to CH system), or a combination of both. Compared to a standard radiator, they are expensive but certainly free up wall space.

I understand, but it seems like an extra cost at this stage (and we'd possibly need to add support to that wall) when all it will currently do is open the kitchen up to the living room and lose the kitchen radiator :(

I was just wondering if there was any kitchen layout suggestions for that room that allow us to have all of the appliances we need to make it functional, without any drastic changes to the building itself as it won't be long-term.

Tiny city apartments make it work (somehow!) i just can't see that room being a functional kitchen as it is. But maybe it won't be unless we move walls/doors :(

    Where actually is your radiator?
Without knocking wall, you should be able to fit a cooker, fridge freezer and washing machine in.
But no room for cabinet storage

But no room for cabinet storage or microwave oven.

The radiator is on the short piece of wall between the front door and living room door.
It seems to be all appliances and no cabinets/worktop or missing an appliance - and having it somewhere else in the house (stuck in a random room, as our bathroom is tiny...)

    Yes!
Thankyou so much for this. This is exactly what i was after, as i think i'm stuck seeing the layout as it is at the moment :)
  • Have you thought about a portable hob - either halogen or induction - I've seen them often on the "Proper Tasty" videos on facebook and would free up space.

Where the free standing cooker is drawn - make that a full height floor to ceiling unit with a built in oven at eye level and then cupboards above and below?

If you want the Hob, get it out of the cupboard for use?

Another thought - where the fridge is drawn - put a fold down shelf/worktop so you could have some extra preperation space - it would stop you opening the freezer door below but just needs a bit of forward thinking and get what you need from the freezer 1st?

    Amm...
I think I got your boiler location wrong....
Your boiler is at top right instead of bottom right?

the fridge need to be at bottom right instead.
washing machine and cooker against wall with window.

You can't. You need room to allow fridge to be remove in future.
However, if she hang the kitchen door the other way round, i.e. push the door to get to middle room, she could get a wall mounted fold up desk or drop leaf table on that wall.

The down side is no one can access to kitchen when she cook...
