I'm terrified of driving in the snow/ice. It's not that I'm incompetent. I think I'm probably better at it than most people I know and I've had plenty of practice. But over time, I've just become really fed up with the stress of it. It's not only worrying about my car getting damaged but it's other drivers going far too fast, driving to close behind me etc.
I'll be getting a taxi if I have to go out. Luckily, there's one driver at my local firm who seems to have no sense of self preservation and will happily risk it even when all the others flatly refuse.0 -
Looking forward to having a go in a rear wheel drive car in snow for the first time, that slope by Sainsbury's should be fun and if I've got momentum near the top and the light is red there is no way I'm stopping so I hope there is no traffic!
Last time it snowed here in 2010 I had to leave the Astra in Sainsbury's car park and walk the rest as the slope was blocked with wheel spinning BMWs sliding backwards. I plan to go in at 6am and snow is forecast from 10am so I'll have the office prepped if others fail to make it.0 -
The weather man said that the country is in for a cold snap later in the week so how prepared is your car for winter
My car is parked on the drive and that is where it will be staying if the white stuff hits, I am in the fortunate position where i can walk to work so dont need to use the car during the rare cold snaps that we get in the UK but as soon as it happens many get caught out so how prepared are you ?
Running on winter tyres and i've checked all the lights and levels, but my car just takes me to and from the airport. I work away from home during the week. I can walk to the office from my hotel if needs be, but i generally get a tram (Manchester city centre)0 -
As I live two miles from the sea, I have made no preparations. My elderly CR-V will get me to work and I'm not precious if someone slides into it so long as they pay to fix it. I shall put a sleeping bag into my husband's 4wd though in case he has problems (heart condition). If it does begin to snow heavily I shall monitor the wx reports (some of my colleagues live in the Lakes) as I wouldn't like them to get into difficulty - they should remain at home or go home before it gets too bad.“And all shall be well. You may be surprised, I've driven hundreds of miles on snow in my rear wheel drive car, at home and abroad, with no drama at all.0 -
