No sale, BT (wonder if they actually want new business).

After using Virgin's TV/phone/broadband service for more than 8 years, I decided to look at alternatives and thought BT's New Year sale was a deal worth looking at. I signed up on Thursday with them, but when I checked my order today and queried it with BT's Live Chat, I was advised no TV service was included, despite it being impossible on their website to select broadband and phone options without first choosing a TV package.
I was then told by Live Chat I would have to cancel my order and place a new order to include TV. The new cost was almost £10 more a month than the package I ordered initially so I lost the 'sale' discount and the difference between the second BT price and that renegotiated with Virgin was negligible.
The BT call handler said she hadn't heard of any issues with packages missing elements ordered by customers (I must be the only person in the country affected by it) and presented me with a take it or leave it scenario. So naturally I left it, although I would have signed up with BT if they had offered the price I'd taken on Thursday.
Two points really: it seems futile for BT to offer sale prices if the customer doesn't receive them; and I take it BT aren't overly concerned about attracting new business, preferring to follow a business model which appears to be based solely on retaining their current customer base.
Whatever Virgin's faults, needless to say I shan't be recommending BT to friends and family should they wish to change providers.
