How to speed up my PC?

I'm not disputing SSD vs HDD speeds, just that we don't have the OP's hardware specs.
I was given an old Acer netbook and an OCZ SSD to sort out by a friend a few years back as they'd heard fitting one would speed up their system. Except the SATA interface was part of an IDE adapter so the drive would only operate at PATA/133 speeds. They wanted it put in anyway, and it made virtually no difference to the speed of the machine.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Best point you made was in your post #24 ....WHY....
then it all went pear shaped and you continued to get into 'piiiissssing contests'
No need to read my sig :cool:4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Aint no sunshine ☀️ Octopus gas fixed dec 24 @ 5.74 tracker again+ Octopus Intelligent Flux leccy0 -

To which model do you refer? I have one of their oldest. A ZG5 from perhaps 2008.
I had to unlock the BIOS setup menu in order to enable AHCI. The fitting of the SSD has turned an unusable machine into a useful tool for travel.
So interested to know which model has the hardware of which you write..0 -
As the OP is not bothering to even follow up their post and others are just polluting the thread with pointless dribble I am unsubing this thread.
Sad F#'s in this world.
To be fair, a lot of the 'pointless dribble' is coming from you.
You are arguing for nothing. You are not more 'right' than AndyPix, There are many useful suggestions within the thread. The main issue here is you trying to insist that your post is the only one that makes sense...whilst writing utter nonsense about Windows 7 needing 4GB of RAM and then wasted others and your time by trying and failing to defend the statement.
So you see, a lot of the drivel is of your making and the contest about which you write was instigated by you and you only.
You are the one cursing at others and countering your own arguments by confirming that a cr*p CPU can run Windows 7 on 1.5GB of RAM and still result in a usable, multi-tasking machine for travel(once fitted with an SSD with AHCI enabled.
So once we find out what machine and spec the OP is running, which would have been my first question, one can go from there.
Nothing wrong with disagreeing on a Tech board, but the way that you do it, makes you look like an idiot....and I'm sure that it not the effect that you seek.
So begin again...in harmony this time
P.S.: To put paid to your Windows 7 Tablet supposition, I was surprised to notice that I am actually running Windows 7 Professional 32 bit on my Netbook, not Windows 7 Starter.0 -

Seriously you two get a life.
Now that is irony. :rotfl:Who'd have thought, IT nerds trying to win an internet argument :wall:Seriously you two get a life.
Never ceases to amaze me when a would be Troll thinks they have the moral high ground. Posting twice on a topic where you have nothing on-topic to contribute, may indicate that you may have too much time on your hands...ergo...you need get a life. Just saying.
If you don't have a technical point of view or are not hoping to learn something from the thread, why are you reading it?
Whatever the protagonists were doing, they were putting their technical points of view.0 -
You need to read my sig
How does your post help the OP?If you can't help the OP or the conversation, please refrain from posting. Click Thanks button if my posts are helpful.
I've read it, thanks. I'm hoping that OP read my post before clicking 'buy' on that SSD and 4GB RAM for his Pentium 3 (for all we know). Hopefully my post was useful in correcting your misinformation.
Telling him he NEEDS 4GB is less than useful - read your own sig.So what would be the F'ing point of installing an OS that you can't run anything on?
2GB RAM, you can do lots on, just not 20 browser tabs at the same time. I thought I'd made that clear.
Anyway, not much more point in anyone contributing any more until we find out what computer OP is talking about, before we go throwing SSDs around!0 -

This thread needs a good scrub with Dettol and a hose-down.
Is the Op going to give us the spec's, or has all this argument caused them to go into hiding?I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

It was definitely an Aspire One of some description (from around 2010), a horrid little netbook with only a 10 or 11" screen. AHCI is the first thing I looked at, I can't remember if the BIOS even had that option available to end users. I'm sure I had to dissamble the whole thing to get to the hard drive....
Same story with mine. Disassembly for just about everything. To add RAM and again to add an SSD. Then to unlock Advanced Options in the BIOS to enable AHCI. Now it actually is a very good Netbook.0
