Last night i was going along at normal speed in a road where there is a bus lane on the nearside further along the road narrows and the bus lane stops, there is also a bollard in the middle of the road so the outside lane is more forced over into the now finished bus lane A marked police car came up in the bus lane no lights or sirens and basically forced theyre way throu making me brake quite hard to avoid hitting either the bollard or the side of the police car. If i hadnt looked in the ns mirror and saw him/her last sec that would have been it. Then when i caught up with them at the traffic lights they turned right no indication nothing across the front of on coming traffic. I have all this on dashcam im thinking of sending the evidence to the local plod. If the siren was on lights on etc fair enough but no just some plank in a plod focus estate on the A40 in Gloucestershire

Go for it. You may however be asked your name address vehicle reg. At which point you may get stopped for apparent random checks ever few days.

It is possible they were attending an incident covertly or where nearby & couldn't put the blues & twos on.

So lemme get this straight... You're irate because you had to use your mirror to avoid hitting another vehicle while you were changing lane?

I wouldn't complain if I was you. They'll be all over you like a rash. Police don't like complaints and they don't really do integrity.

Just suck it up my friend.
  • Little confused about the first bit:
Whilst you were not expecting a police car would it have been any different if a bus was using the bus lane?

Turning across traffic without so much as a signal is poor driving, but since no accident resulted ( did that oncoming traffic also have to brake to avoud accident?) would imagine any police investigation would find a load of mitigating facts that weren't apparent to you at the time.

My opinion: not worth it, congratulate yourself on effective use of mirrors and safe braking. Continue to give all plod cars, even the ones not in disco mode, a wide birth in case they are planks too.

Just like you don't do ill informed generalisations that you can't prove, right?

Bit like the plod in our village who went down for dealing in stolen antiques back in the 80s....................sorry times moved on now they cant be bothered to even turn up when you get your house done over too busy catching speeding offenders.................more money in it
  • If you do nothing then you'll never know why they did it.

I know some people think the police are whiter than white & would never dream of doing anything wrong .... because they're the police right & only ever do the right thing!

    But with that said...

I have to agree with the above.

I complained about a police officer once. I was in a collision with a local thug. This guy tried to run me off the road. I knew who he was & i knew how unstable he was so i didn't stop. I know you're supposed to stop but when you know how unstable this guy is i'm sorry but you don't stop. I know some here will say you should stop no matter what but i've got something if those people start up. I was going to call the police when i got home.

But he beat me to it. Said i'd ran in to him. Yeah that's why his tyre marks were all over my rear wheels as he was turning in to me.

Anyway the police officer said i should call the guy. I said no chance plus i don't need to. It's an insurance job. I explained why i didn't stop & told him not to forward my mobile number on. He said he wouldn't.

Next minute i'm getting unpleasant texts off this guy. The cop lied. Clearly. So i put in a complaint.

They wanted me to come in to discuss it as they were going to deal with the cop. When i got down they didn't even discuss it & wouldn't entertain it. Instead talked about having me for not stopping. I explained why i didn't stop, how i felt it was unsafe to do so & how i was going to call the police when i got home which would've only been 10-15 minutes later when i felt it was safe. I told them i know who this guy is and i know they know who this guy is & i know how they know what its like to get turfed out of this guys house as i know he was chucking cops out as quick as they were entering on some raid. The woman clearly accepted that we were talking about a maniac but ignored it anyway.

I never got done for not stopping in the end but the point is if there's any way they can cover each other then they will. When you see in the papers cops getting off driving 150mph on open roads because they're 'testing' or whatever then you're going to have to be on your A-game to have a cop. If they haven't killed anyone for no reason with plenty of witnesses present then nothing will happen to them.
