Someone Is Trying To Register Their Car To My Address

My V5 was sent to another address by DVLA. They managed to enter the postcode incorrectly which then gave the wrong address - quite how they don't check the road name matches but it still went elsewhere. The house owner confirmed they'd received it and returned to DVLA when I queried 3 months later.

The address is word perfect. The only difference to what I give is that the town is prefixed with East (from back in the days when they were two different villages, before the New Town absorbed this village). I haven't used it in years, though some people still do.

I once had a V5C in my full name (including middle) to my address for a car I never had, no mix up with DVLA as I didn't send anything. The last keeper was from same town. I went straight to the police station to have it logged in case anything happened then wrote to DVLA, had letter, never heard anything else since - 11 years ago.

Hmm, DVLA have a reputation for losing documents or claiming to have never received them. Since there could be flack from this not being sorted out early, the OP's caution sounds sensible. In fact some advise using only RM 'signed-for' as opposed to Recorded for comms with DVLA.

If the document gets lost within DVLA even though you might have Recorded or signed for delivery evidence DVLA will still deny its arrival and liability.
    I wouldn't waste your money.

One posted its deemed delivered, see the communications act, that's what the DVLA hide behind all the time.
    Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.
  • UPDATE. I hadn't heard anything back from the DVLA, so I called them today, and said the car had been removed from our address. So it does look like someone had registered it at our house, and must have intercepted the Logbook. I've asked them to send a confirmation letter just in case there is any further non-DVLA correspondance.
