Someone Is Trying To Register Their Car To My Address

The V5C/2 is the new keeper slip. The person who's registering the car in their name should never need to do anything with this, apart from take it to the PO or use the number on it online, in order to tax the car.
The important bit is the V5C itself, which the vendor posts to DVLA - or that can be done online now, too.0 -

Do you honestly think they sign for them? It will be a few big sacks with hundreds of letters. COP will be more than adequate.0 -

Do you perchance mean Special Delivery?
'Signed For'/Recorded will mean that you know that someone has collected it. Won't mean that it has reached the correct department, though...
Thanks, yes I did mean SD, the one with enhanced tracking over Recorded. IIRC the key point was that as long as it is confirmed as being delivered to DVLC, they can't disadvantage you for their internal disorganisation, which had been the case for some drivers.Do you honestly think they sign for them? If it doesn't get signed perhaps that's why someone was recommending SD since the tracking would still show it delivered to DVLC where Recorded perhaps wouldn't. It was something I read some years back so a little blurry. But yes I agree the OP has done the right thing to use recorded in this case.0 -

In this circumstance there would be no difference between Signed for and SD. You can still track it to see that it has been delivered to the office. It would be kept as a batch and bulk scanned.
Signed for isn't much more than standard. I'd be inclined to go as far as that but not SD.0 -

You can't do anything with signed for until it shows up on the system as delivered so you'd never know if it's been lost or delivered in bulk and not showing as being delivered.
Proof of postage is more than enough but to be honest I'd put it in the post box without paying.0 -
You can send in a P58 and claim it as lost... Or if you know it was delivered (i.e. got a reply) you can still claim back the extra cost of Signed For if the RM is not showing the signature online.Billy_Bullocks wrote: »You can't do anything with signed for until it shows up on the system as delivered so you'd never know if it's been lost or delivered in bulk and not showing as being delivered.
Keeping the scans is a good idea - maybe even e-mail a copy as well if you have a contact name.I need to think of something new here...0 -

Wow, so you can get a book of stamps out of it.0 -
Is it an old car? Possibly someone trying to register the car as sold so that when they abandoned it, they could argue that it was no longer their car.
This happens. We had a visit from a Council Official a few years back. They'd removed an abandoned unlicensed car which had been registered to our address without our knowledge and were after payment for the removal and disposal. Fortunately we were believed and heard no more about it.0 -
My V5 was sent to another address by DVLA. They managed to enter the postcode incorrectly which then gave the wrong address - quite how they don't check the road name matches but it still went elsewhere. The house owner confirmed they'd received it and returned to DVLA when I queried 3 months later. All a bit presumptuous. Could well be an honest mistakeRemember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0
