So difficult about the travel insurance - it's good that the bank will cover repatriation (if I've understood you rightly). It may be worth checking if he was in a Union or friendly society as sometimes there is insurance through one of these.
It sounds as though you are preferring Ald! to L1dl: I'm looking forward to the Ald! that's being built near us. We have a L1dl which is useful but they really push the pastries despite having a fair range of fruit and veg.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
The sun's been out and I think I’m solar powered (Onebrokelady)

I do prefer Aldi, I think they do more of their own ranges and almost everything we've had has been good. I don't like their washing up liquid, soaps, shampoo etc though. I stick to my tried and tested brands but I did give them a go. I noticed I was saving about £20 - £30 a week by shopping there.

Not much to report. There's not much going out of the account middle of the month.
I did buy myself lunch at 20yo's work as he asked me if I could bring his bike charger. I spent £12 as I get a 10% discount. This is the first money I've spent out of my own "pocket money" this month. I had a brie & bacon panini. It comes with salad and he added chips 🍟 😋.
MrM and I have potted the jasmine we bought yesterday. I've also ordered some cushions for the garden furniture and some weed control tarpaulin type stuff for the front garden as we are being over taken by thistles. I don't want to spray them and accidentally kill next door's plants!
MrM and I have also just spent a lovely hour sitting in the garden whilst a light rain shower passed over us. It's never really been nice enough to sit out in and we don't do it enough. Was lovely just us two, and a cup of tea. 15yo came and joined us for a bit too which is rare and also lovely.
I checked the mortgage company again but their rates don't appear to have come down. Plenty of time to keep checking.
 Stay frugal.

It can take a while for mortgage companies to jig their rates about. Hopefully new deals will start appearing in the next few weeks. The garden sitting sounds lovely 😊

I just noticed I get paid on the 22nd this month due to payday falling on the bank holiday. I might do the same as early Christmas pay and shuffle it out of the joint account until around the 27th otherwise there's a lot of month that money has to stretch through!0

I did a prolific survey today. I have £4.35 in there. I must remember to try and log in regularly.
MrM brought up the subject of holiday next year again. I was more forceful in reminding him we need to cut our cloth accordingly and if it means waiting another year, then so be it.
It's so hot here today. 33⁰. I'm not cut out for this type of weather. I didn't go into the office as I didn't fancy commuting on the trains so that's £15 saved today!
Just about to settle down to Sewing Bee.

I counted up my July Tilly tidy amount and it's £27.21 🎉
My HSBC statement arrived today. DD was set up for the minimum which I'll keep for the first month then up it.
Was an NSD today as I've not left the house. My friend came round for a coffee. She picked up her sister in law and the kids from the airport this morning. I'm taking her out for lunch tomorrow.
I've tillied my bank account already this evening and completed a prolific survey.
 A good day4

Not much to report being in the middle of the month slump. Got three bills to come out before I'm paid totaling £80.
I took my friend for lunch and paid for this out of my "pocket money". I have £104 left so hoping to hang on to as much of that as possible between now and the end of the month.
Did a couple of prolific surveys today but none are big payers and I've just tillied 83p to the savings.
I'm also feeling really tired today and can't wait for the weekend to arrive.

I was about to type NSD today but then remembered I shelled out for a train ticket for 15yo to get to Thorpe Park this morning. But apart from that no spends.
Been to the in laws for our usual Friday night dinner and now home and off to bed.1

Quick update. Got to Aldi and spent £80.83 then nipped down to Tesco to buy the bathroom stuff. Stocked up on shampoo, conditioner & shower gels. Spent another £30.
Having a rest before starting on the housework.2
