Morning all, I am shattered this morning.  Didn't get to sleep until gone 3.30am. Excitement of dog on my mind.  We have told the kids we're registered with a rescue and could expect a home check any day. This was to get them to tidy their rooms! 12yo gets very overwhelmed and stressed by it all. If she kept it tidy in the first place it would be so much easier.

Saturday we were at the in-laws for a birthday buffet for my nephew. He was very pleased with his darts we got him.

Yesterday was spent doing a bit of tidying and mainly finishing A Discovery of Witches.

    Back to the grindstone today.

  • I still have one episode left. I read the books, but can’t quite remember the ending.

I got the trilogy on my kindle after the first series but still haven't read them 🤦‍♀️  I'm currently listening to Dear Mrs Bird by AJ Pearce.  #1 in the Emmy Lake chronicles.  Set during WWII, Emmy wants to be a Lady War Reporter but it all goes a bit wrong when she goes for the job interview.  I got it on borrowbox loan from the library.  I walked (most of the way) to the in-laws on Saturday what with the car being kaput so it's good to hve something to listen to and the headphones keep my ears warm!

Talking of the car being kaput. I don't have a drive but do have a garage in a block of garages just down a little service road so I have parked the car there. It dawned on me the other day that my insurance is due to expire at the end of the month. I know I had written about getting my renewal through but didn't put 2+2 together and realise I don't have to renew. I need to contact the insurance company and let them know but also need to find out what happens with my no claims bonus as I'll probably get a new car within the next couple of months.

My only money saving at the weekend was not going out so I only spent £1.50 on a bus fare on Saturday. I cheated on part of the way to in-laws 😂  I didn't do any tilly tidying but do need to check what's come out of the bank account from the pending transactions.

Crate training is a must IMO - better for both bog and owner. Cavvy 2 was crate trained and was SO happy with it that by the time she reached adult dog stage we could glance her way and say "time for bed?" and she would contentedly get up from wherever she was, and wander over to her bed in the crate and settle herself down. (This eventually progressed to the rather wonderful party-trick of looking at her and yawning at which point again, she'd take herself to bed!) This was the dog, mind you, who used to regularly lie with her front paws crossed in front of her - as a result of seeing that she naturally did this, and over just a couple of weeks, I was able to train her so if I said her name, then crossed my arms when she looked at me, she would promptly cross her own front paws to match! Just possibly the cutest thing in the world.

Back to the crate - initially as a pup we've always closed/latched the door on them overnight. hat translated to leaving the latch undone, then subsequently to leaving the door fully open once risk of chewing etc had passed - that way they are quite happy being closed in which can be invaluable if you have workmen in the house, for example.

@lucielle no haven't tried that yet! Finished Around The World In 80 Days yesterday and started on Afterlife.

In doggy news, we've been to PetsatHome today and spent a small fortune on bedding, toys etc. We should be picking her up tomorrow afternoon.  I've booked off tomorrow and Thursday so will be sorting the garden in the morning and checking everything is safe in the house.
