What would be in your must have spare cupboard?

I once offered, as a prize for a silly quiz we did, a candlelit supper for two. Inside the brown paper bag was; a bottle of wine, a Fray Bentos tinned meat pie, some tinned veg, a few candles, matches and a couple of fruit jellies with a tin of squirty cream.
Bumped into the winner some months later - he laughed and said, I stuck the bag in the cupboard and forgot all about. Last week, came back from the Pub starving hungry and ate the lot...!!!0 -
A torch, a couple of candles in case of a power cut and a box of matches.
A packet of Elastoplast.
a hot water bottle for those flu type nights when you shiver in bed?
A packet of paracetamol.0 -
So, so much!!
I have a back up of pretty much all tins/jars which are in my kitchen cupboard in my 'spare' cupboard. That way, when something runs out I put the spare in the kitchen, it goes on my list and everything gets replaced before it runs out.
Sauces/condiments - ketchup, HP, mustard, whatever his preference is
Pasta
Pesto
Coffee
Sugar
This is exactly what I do. As soon as I open the new whatever (say mayo), I go and buy a new one and it's in the cupboard, so I never run out of anything.

The best thing we were given when we moved house was a box of assorted screws, nails, tacks, curtain wire, hooks etc. I thought it was a bit weird when we got it but, actually, I probably use it once a month still and we've been here several years.
A smoke and/or CO2 alarm or at least the batteries for them would also be good. Smoke alarms only ever need new batteries in the middle of the night when you have no spares!0 -
Perhaps not the most optimistic gift, but I'd consider getting a fire extinguisher. Having had a fire whilst I was in the house, but unable to put it out, then having to deal with the nightmare of fire/smoke damage, insurers, cleaners, alternative accomodation etc etc - it's an item I would recommend to any homeowner for the hassle it can save.Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending0
