It's compulsory.
In a gift basket ..... and he'd better look mightily grateful when he's given it
I think a bottle of wine or a pack of beers was the last house warming gift I gave (I think once it was a bottle of whiskey)0 -
It's a nice idea but could potentially leave him with clutter he doesn't need when he's just moved in to a new property. If someone gave me UHT milk I would send it straight to the food bank as there aren't any emergencies dire enough that I would use it.0

Agree it's rancid that stuff and I would rather go without than use it.0 -
A good LED torch, a selection of batteries, candles/tea lights and matches. Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0

TBH....if its a flat he's bought, spare cupboards would probably be a luxury...I havent seen many flats that have sufficient storage space let alone any spare....
I would go with a disposable pack of coffee, tea biscuits or cake and a few bits to "welcome" him..and leave it at that....a bottle of wine or fizz.
How many times does the electricity actually fail nowadays that you need emergency candles nowadays?....frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!
2017 toiletries challenge 179 out 145 in ...£18.64 spend0 -
Decent wall plugs/ Husband assures me the ones that come with shelves etc are always rubbish.
I'd be more appreciative of a DIY store gift voucher or an offer of help moving/ putting stuff up/ away to be honest0 -

I love it. It's the only milk I buy!
Saves money on travelling to the shops too, as it keeps for ages. However, I have had a few guests comment on it, negatively. One even asked if the milk was off :rotfl:
OP, you could add scissors and a corkscrew to the list. Maybe rubber gloves. But I'd agree with arbrighton that it might be better just giving him a hand with moving etc instead of buying a load of stuff.0 -
I think I'd just go with wine, beer, offer to buy a takeout?
I have no storage in my house really so lots of loo rolls, torches ( he could probably use the one on his phone), UHT milk and bulbs would slightly annoy me as I'd have no where to store it all.0 -
