I've found the post by Deleted_User which I was referring to. I'm going to split the relevant part into paragraphs hoping it might make things clearer. He did confirm earlier in the thread that my understanding was correct. So he understands why he's not allowed to do what he'd like to do, but I can understand his frustration. He can add unnecessary bells and whistles, at his own expense, but for the same cost (or less) to Motability, he can't have a better spec car which better meets his needs.
Yes of course, who wouldn't like a better spec car, have all the bells and whistles with no extra cost to themselves?
The reality is if you want fancy extras that have no impact on your disability and your car is at the maximum price allowed on the scheme then you will need to pay for them yourself.
That's how it should have been all along.0 -

No one is saying people should be able to have a state of the art sound system for free because they are disabled. People are saying that as they can pay for the sound system so they should be able to pay for other extras, especially those which assist them in dealing with their disability.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
When in supermarkets I either use the BB or children spaces, but always put my BB on the dash.
When spaces are not available I park with the white line down the centre of the car thus taking up two parking spaces
That would put you more at risk of intended rather than accidental scratches.
I am failing to understand why someone non disabled would have to wait for a place to come available but a disabled person can't. Surely if they are no spaces available in the disabled bay, which from my experience is very rare considering how many are being allocated, then why not wait until one becomes so? Or is it a case that being disabled gives you the entitlement not to have to wait?0 -

There's a couple of supermarkets I avoid other than late at night because of having to drive around for ages waiting for a space. In the end I've been waiting so long I've gone home or another shop. (Those stores also have ling waits for their mobility scooters too).
I've never seen any supermarket that has every regular bay taken.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -

So being nice and patient does not mean others will offer the same.
Why do you say 'intended'? Are you suggesting that someone would purposely scratch the car which incidentally is a criminal matter?0 -

So next time I see a disabled car using two normal bays, I will retaliate and take one disabled one as tit for tat attitude?
Your attitude really doesn't help. There are disabled parking for disabled people. They are many of them (at least in my area, two full rows of them, more than 20 places!), so why think it is ok to take two spaces intended for two cars?
Personally, if I see someone taking two spaces in a busy car park, disabled or not, I will say something to them.0 -
So because you had one bad experience, one that you could have reported, you think it is ok to take an entitled attitude and take two spaces that are not for your attention?

How many is enough?
It's private land owned by them and they can do what they want with regards to spaces.
Most council run carparks tend to only have a handful of spaces, are you going to take two up in those if they are full! Good luck fighting the ticket.0
