Depends, some networks can detect when a phone SIM is in a tablet and it won't work.0 -
Tethering ... be aware that some networks (or at least plans) don't allow tethering. (The networks can usually tell).
If you're on a limited data plan then tethering is usually OK, but not if you have an unlimited data plan.0 -

Your budget barely covers an entry level 10in tablet without 3G/4G, as you pay well over the odds to have 3G/4G integrated into a tablet you're looking at around double the top end of your budget for a new, branded tablet like this one:

Cex offer second hand ones (I mention them as they're good for returns and they now offer a 24 month warranty) but a grade C Galaxy Tab A is still over your budget at £145, Grade B is £160:

And A for £180:

The smaller Galaxy Tab A 7in is a good bit smaller than your current tablet but it's about the only branded tablet I can find within your budget.

What about the Archos 101b xenon 10.1 3G tablet at 99.990

Archos tablets are cheap and nasty, avoid.0

Why is that unfortunate? They have the cheapest data packages and at up to 30GB a month tethering, depending on your data allowance, they give the highest tethering allowance of any network too. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I agree. My wife and I are both on Three, have been for years, and mostly enjoy great signal strength and network performance in most of the places we live/visit/work. We have unlimited data plans (including tethering). Why is that unfortunate? They have the cheapest data packages and at up to 30GB a month tethering, depending on your data allowance, they give the highest tethering allowance of any network too.A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but ignorance is lethal.0 -
As others have said, you would get better value looking for a tablet (possibly used) that does not have a sim slot, and using either a smartphone hotspot or one of the "wifi" style portable wifi hotspot devices. You can also save a lot of money for such devices by buying preloaded cards on eBay and working your way through them (cheaper than top-ups/plans).A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but ignorance is lethal.0
