Contactless cards

Options
Is anyone else annoyed at the lack of opt-out for contactless payments? I cannot find a card, credit, debit or charge where I have an option not to have the contactless facility. It is my account that the banks and card companies are making vunerable to low level fraud or accident, I now have to look at every transaction and if there is a dodgy one, how do I prove it is not a valid transaction? This is a way for banks to avoid their responsibilities and I am in the process of moving transactions to ApplePay and Paypal which are more secure - am I the only one?
Farudsters are out there a plenty, I dont need my bank and card companies colluding with them to take my (limited) money.
Are there enough people of similar mindset to start a campaign to get the option?

    Probably not........

Far more important things to worry and campaign about than contactless cards. That ship has sailed.

Well you should be looking at every transaction anyway to make sure it is correct, it's stupid not to do it even if you don't have contactless!. This is how so many people end up paying for products every month for years without knowing what it's for.

Secondly if you question a Contactless transaction then the bank will refund it without question. They Gurantee all contactless transactions because they want to encourage them so they get more revenue from smaller transactions. It is nothing to do with banks avoiding any responsibilitys.

I suggest you take the time to read the facts about Contactless before starting any campaigns!.

The problem is you are too paranoid. The people who get "hacked" and their money stolen are stupid. I've had emails " you iTunes purchase of £124.99 is authorised click on link to confirm" If you are stupid enough to click on a link and enter all your details and passwords then it's your own fault. It's not as easy to duplicate contactless payments as tv makes it out. It's stupid people who give away their passwords on links is the problem not "hacking

After all the celebrities who have clicked on email links and got their private pictures put online by giving away their passwords you will have noticed Apple have upped their security by sending a text to your phone for authentication if you try to log onto a device which is not recognised.

The Apple hack was because the Apple site didn't stop you making multiple guesses so they could brute force hack. Ryan Collins was convicted of doing the fake email phishing technique but was not officially linked to the big leak

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

    Maybe, maybe not.

Contactless has a lot of weaknesses and the transaction values are so small that most people won't notice if it's in the same shops they go to.

However PIN terminals in the UK are fairly well known to be insecure, the banks have refused to acknowledge and fix the worst problems. It's no wonder as they try to bully people to pay for fraudulent transactions, who no longer have the "That isn't my signature" defence.

Most people don't care because despite this, they are unlikely to see any fraud. It's the same as leaving your car or house unlocked then it doesn't automatically mean that you will be burgled.

But then what is your alternative? Cash is no better as you can be given counterfeit notes or your wallet can be lost or stolen.

My Marks and Spencer mastercard credit card doesn't support contactless.

Paypal isn't regulated by the FSA, I'm not sure how much trust I would put in them. I've been stung for fraud before and they couldn't care less.

No idea about how secure ApplePay is when making a transaction, but I assume it's the finger print reader that makes you feel more secure. Time will tell as you don't tend to hear about the vulnerabilities from the criminals, but Apple themselves don't appear to be security focused. http://www.latimes.com/business/hiltzik/la-fi-mh-apple-pay-would-be-secure-20150307-column.html http://www.pymnts.com/apple-pay-tracker/2016/apple-pays-low-tech-security-problem/ They also aren't regulated by the FSA.

You can opt out of contactless with Halifax, not sure about other banks, as I use contactless on my other cards.

I like using Apple Pay as the actual card number is never sent to the retailer-however nothing is ever 100% fraud proof.

My biggest gripe? A lot of retailers still cap their Apple/Android Pay transactions to £30.

Just go to the ATM and use cash so.

Keep your card firmly in your wallet and only use it on secure sites in the comfort of your own home/office where no one will scam you.

Simple isn't it? Non contactless have been scammed too you know.

Or just use contactless and get on with it.
