Not one person on this forum has ever, ever, ever outlined a fraud they've suffered where contactless was used.

When I worked for a bank, nobody ever, ever, ever reported a fraud based on a contactless transaction. Not once.

Contactless is safe. If someone has physical access to the card, they are going to buy gift cards online using the 16 digit number and CVV. They are not going to buy a Big Mac using contactless.

I don't know about that: I think I would be tempted to buy a Big Mac.

    I would agree with you:
Contactless card fraud is actually quite low. In the first half of 2015, only £516,500 of a £2.58 billion contactless spend was fraudulent.

But whatever we say it doesn't stop horror stories being published. It sells newspapers:
Crooks using card reading equipment can swipe money as you walk
They can also steal information that they can then use to steal your identity
It even possible when contactless cards were in bags and jacket pockets
The equipment needed is available for as little as £30 online

But that still leaves mind control. C'mon folks, wear a tin-foil hat. You know it makes sense!

Articles like that make me cringe. To quote:

"There's nothing to stop a criminal setting up a legitimate business and then using it to steal money on the side.k". There is something stopping them, on both accounts. First, that account will get immediately flagged by automated fraud detection systems as it will have a lot of cards outside of their usual pattern. It will be flagged further once people start reporting the thefts. And then it's legitimate jail time for the businessman.

Yeah, you just don't get card terminals willy-nilly. Even the little £50 pocket terminals from places like Sumitup, PayPal etc will get withdrawn if you start getting more than a couple of chargebacks, and won't be issued without some sort of ID checks taking place. Visa, MasterCard and AmEx do NOT treat fraudulent merchants with kid gloves. They have far more experience with kicking the seven shades of sh*t out of such people than the people have of committing fraud.
