Thank goodness we are moving away from an era where politicians and their fanatic supporters will talk, spread propaganda, and repeat ad infinitum, regardless of fact and regardless of actions that have been taken.

    Oh wait...

Going isolationist is not a viable option.

Isolationism is not what he's about, that's a tired old media misunderstanding.

Obama constantly provoked Putin, everything from sending special Envoys to Belarus and other old Soviet states, encouraging them to look west, to placing missiles in those states, medalling in Ukraine etc etc.

Imagine if Russia had been doing similar in Cuba and Mexico.

Obamas' sanctions on Russia caused huge pain, the whole relationship has been a disaster

It's no wonder Russia had a vested interest in a Trump victory for their own national interests, and rightly so

Hillary spent twice what Trump did on advertising, and 5 x more on her ground game, plus she had the entire MSM on her side, and still she lost.

Conrad, what are you investing in? I'd be quite interested in tracking this especially as I've just done the opposite i.e. sold up a foreign tracker and invested in the UK.

    Temporarily... Maybe.

But at the cost of an estimated $16 TRILLION increase in the national debt to pay for those bungs to business and god only knows how much environmental damage and human suffering from the cuts to medical and social security coverage.

Hmm, but Hamish, when have you EVER been concerned about National Debts? Every single point you have made on this board regarding national debts, specifically on the US debt ceiling threads, is that the national debt is not a problem and you don't create an artificial ceiling that causes "needless" widespread economic damage.

I've also never really seen any concern regarding the human suffering side of things? Case in point is when discussing Greece and the suffering some Greek people have had to endure.

Howcome you are all concerned now?

You are starting to sound like a champion for forms of socialism. Nothing wrong in that, of course....just a little confusing for the rest of us considering your posts over the last few years.

By voting in a government that will actually help them. Trump is definitely not that man. Unfortunately, for a lot of people the situation was dire enough that they went for the party offering change, not realising that the change being offered is only going to be for the worse.

Didn't they do just that in the last 2 terms by voting in Obama?
(if you believe Democrats are fairer, which is questionable..)

    How did that work out?

My relatives on the other side of the pond who have investment businesses were pretty keen on the meditech developments coming out of California.

There are big potential returns there, but just like dotcom you could easily pick some right turkeys.

Interestingly, the target consumer market they aim for is not in Europe or the USA.

INVESTMENT - I'm not a sophisticated share investor, I am merely altering the mix of our ISA's to reflect some US exposure with a view to long term growth.

Trump is going to be very pro business and enterprise, unlike any modern US leader.

Citizens want opportunity and hope over less enterprise with better regulations. Who cares what your paternity rights are if you face a bleak future in a non job grinding out a living? People far prefer the hope and vitality of a 1950's optimistic enterprise culture over some lefty culture of excessive employment rights and costly red tape that drives business offshore

By selling the FTSE and buying S&P trackers or something like that?

Right until they realise that since they've got no rights, and are grinding out an existance working for an optimistic enterprise that treats them like slave labour (have a look at the conditions the Chinese staff that build the iPhone live in. Will Americans be happy when that's the norm? Because that's what Trump "me over all" will press for).
