Thanks all, MOT was a real pain, I think we’re going to need to look at getting a newer car as things are starting to go wrong. 😑

Had a stressful morning yesterday as nursery called halfway through a Teams meeting I was on saying DD had been sick & someone needed to pick her up. 😩 DH was driving trains & I was stuck on my meeting and my mum had just gotten home from the school run, doesn’t drive and has a dodgy knee and back so couldn’t go back out.

I finished the meeting then had to ask to get away from work for an hour to collect DD & ditch her at my mum’s until the afternoon. DD seemed fine when I collected her and hasn’t been sick since nursery.

She’s not allowed back in nursery for 48 hours so luckily my mum can watch her today and I’m off on Friday. Won’t be able to go for my run on Friday morning though so might try today after school pickup.

Need to make a birthday cake for DH & sort out dinner for him tomorrow. Hopefully DD won’t be sick again.

Thanks guys, DD has been absolutely fine & not been sick at all since nursery on Wednesday morning! She has mentioned having a sore tummy a couple of times but is eating fine etc. She is definitely going back tomorrow!

DD actually wasn’t a bother on Friday, we went to Mr M’s to get a few things and she was pretty well behaved. I made DH’s birthday cake and she helped by licking the spoon. 😂 It was a coffee cake and the sponge was a bit wonky but it tasted ok. 👍🏻

DH & I have been looking at getting a newer car for me since the failed MOT & big repair bill. I’m worried about things starting to go wrong due to the age of my current car and we always seem to have terrible luck with parts wearing out/breaking once our cars get to a certain age!

I’m also concerned about the expanding ULEZ zones as my car isn’t compliant and I need it for work. I think it’s only a matter of time before the town we live in has one.

The prices of second hand cars are so expensive though. 😱 And no way we can afford an electric car as they are even dearer. We still owe around £1k on my current car loan.

We need to look at how much we would get for my car as well. It’s all so depressing as we will need to take out another loan and will be back where we started. We spent most of the morning yesterday looking online & trying to figure out how to finance it and afford the repayments.

I forced myself out for a run after that, really didn’t want to go but knew it would help me feel better. I did 5k in 37 mins run/walk/run and felt quite ok with that, I’m getting there, just not with the continuous running as that still feels like torture!

How old is your car and how many miles has it done?
If you get rid of of it now you won’t see the benefit of the £500 you’ve just spent on it
You said it was service and mot so the service will have been a big chunk of the £500; what did it actually fail the mot on?

Hi MF, the car is 11 years old in April and has done approx 89,000 miles. It failed the MOT on the rear brakes, cost about £200 for that to be fixed.  I’m just very wary of holding onto it and it becoming a money pit and needing more & more repairs as things start to fail.

It also needs the cam belt replaced this year and likely a new battery. So that’s another chunk of money we’d need to find. I suspect some water ingress as well as it often freezes on the inside in the cold weather! Scraping ice off the inside of the windscreen as well as the outside is not fun at 5am when I’m on early shift.

I’m also worried about the ULEZ zones expanding, I don’t want to be caught out with that. We were forced to replace DH’s car last year so he could get into work due to it. My car isn’t compliant as it’s too old & can’t be taken into the city anymore without a big fine.

    Cake looks lush.

Do you really think they will extend the ULEZ zones?
