Thanks guys, glad I'm not being unreasonable, sometimes the PIL make me doubt myself and act as though I'm being incredibly selfish because I won't agree to what they want.
Also spoke to a friend from work on the phone & she was saying to put my foot down about the PIL as well. I don't like confrontation or want to upset them but I just know having them stay is a recipe for disaster, especially as we don't have a great relationship to begin with. I would end up losing the rag & then they would turn it around & make it all about how terrible & horrible I am to them.:(
Poor DH was worrying all morning about how to tell his parents (again) that they can't stay with us. You're right Bob that he needed to do it, I told him no & I think he actually agreed with me but has been conditioned all his life into giving into their emotional blackmail & didn't know how. He's very sensitive & they play on that by saying he's hurting their feelings. The sad thing is I don't even think they know they're doing it!
Anyway he finally just said listen it's too much having you stay, of course when you're up you can come over to the house for the full day to spend time with the baby but we need our own space in the evenings. They're talking about staying for at least 3 days so even that will be a challenge! They've now said they're looking at B&B's - DH said they're not happy but tough luck. I'll get the blame anyway, I've already taken their precious boy, now I'll be the one stopping them staying in the same house as their grandchild.
Another part of what annoys me is that they can easily afford to pay for a hotel or B&B, they're not short of money! They'd rather cause havoc trying to force us to do what they want than spend some though.
Had a nice time with my friends, one had her 11 week old baby with her & he was hating the heat. We had the parasol up & there was a nice cool wind which settled him down, poor wee soul. I had a nice cuddle with him & he fell asleep for a wee while. My other friend had her 5 yo with her & he was quite happy playing with DH which meant we could have a chat.
Had to have a nap later on as just wiped out with the heat, it's still awful now. Hope it's cooler tomorrow.:cool:Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Car loan 1 £11,174, Car loan 2 £5,532, CC 0% BT £780. Sorry to hear PIL are being pains.
With my first I was only 15 so didn't feel I could deny family the chance to visit in hospital and at home and it was a nightmare.
When I had my second I knew more about what I wanted so I told everyone that I would have no visitors at hospital and that we would visit them when we were ready - it was fab and so much better for me and baby.
Well done for sticking to your guns - hopefully the days will fly by while they are here although surely baby will just be sleeping for the majority of the day so they won't be able to do much except watch baby sleep?!!?!
Hope you manage to keep cool this bank holiday weekend!!0 -
Hi EE, thanks for letting me know what worked for you. I know they'll be saying I'm being stubborn & selfish but they already think that so no real harm done!
My mum said to compromise because she was worried about my DH (she thinks a lot of him) but she doesn't really know what the PIL are like although I think she has an idea as she said they were being a bit self-centred by insisting on staying with us.
Yes I don't understand what they think they're going to "do" as such with the baby although obviously they want to see their grandchild. If I do manage to breastfeed I imagine I'll be holding the baby a lot of the time as well so will probably be accused of not letting them touch him/her! Can't really win!
We'll just have to go out a lot of walks/short trips & hope the weather is ok as would be a nightmare being stuck indoors with them.
I'm hoping the weather cools down soon.Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Car loan 1 £11,174, Car loan 2 £5,532, CC 0% BT £780. Debt Free Diary to try & keep spending in check.0 -
Sashy I'm so glad you have managed to get them into a hotel. It's so hard when others try to impose their wishes. How are you finding these last days?" Your vibe attracts your tribe":D

Thanks Bob, me too, I just hope they don't try and backtrack again cos they don't want to spend the money. The way they think about a lot of things is mind boggling to me. I really think they found my DH under a bush somewhere. :rotfl:
I'm struggling with the heat & feel massive & tired now, just wish the baby would decide to arrive. Doesn't help when I'm not sure what to expect or really look out for. I have my next appointment with the midwife on Tuesday so will see what she says then - will be 11 days overdue by that point. I think they might have been a few weeks out calculating the due date anyway as the pregnancy was a bit of a surprise & I wasn't too clear on my dates etc so baby may be perfectly on time by its own standards.:oSuccess is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Went out yesterday for a few hours with DH, visited a few shops & then went to see my mum. She had my baby niece staying overnight so both DH & I had fun playing with her.
She was quite interested in my big bump but think she liked the colours on my dress as kept trying to lick it.:rotfl: She was also fascinated with DH & he got a smile from her really quickly - she seems to prefer men as I always get studied for a good while before I can coax a smile out of her.:rotfl:
Not much planned for today, just waiting on baby again. Might go a wee walk & see if that helps. Got my appointment for a sweep tomorrow so maybe that will move things along if nothing happens today. The weather is much cooler today so feeling a bit better.:)Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Car loan 1 £11,174, Car loan 2 £5,532, CC 0% BT £780. Well had my sweep this morning & although not the nicest experience, it wasn't sore as such, just uncomfortable. I had to get her to pause for a minute halfway through as it was getting a bit much & baby started squirming about too.
Midwife said cervix has thinned & I'm 1cm dilated so things going in the right direction but am booked in for induction on Friday in case the sweep doesn't get things started.
Definitely feeling more cramp/period like pains & tightenings but no contractions as yet. Sitting on my exercise ball & hoping it will help me progress as would rather not have to be induced. Will have to go in to hospital on the Thursday afternoon for the pessary & stay overnight. Would rather be at home with DH than sat on a labour ward.
We did a bit of shopping so that we can chill out at home today & tomorrow. Just hoping baby gets a move on but thinking I'll probably end up at least getting the pessary.:(
Will try to stay positive - anyway by the end of the week it won't really matter as we'll have our baby.Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Car loan 1 £11,174, Car loan 2 £5,532, CC 0% BT £780. Debt Free Diary to try & keep spending in check.0 -
It must be very strange but exciting to know that this time next week you'll be mummy and daddy
Hope the sweep gets things going for you - at least with your thinning cervix and 1cm you know you're on the way:j PAID VERY, Barclaycard x3, Vanquis, Natwest, O/D, Tesco & MBNA x2 PAID :j LBM 24/07/15 - Original Debt: £0/31010.23 (100% paid)

Thanks Kirsty, yes a very strange feeling but we're both looking forward to it. DH is getting really emotional and can't wait to see the baby, he's a big softie.
Yes was glad the midwife could do the sweep and at least I have a chance of going into labour without induction. Back is killing me now but just feels like bad period pain still.Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.
