You should point to a source , as it's a pointless argument, those that know, know they are illegal, all the garage door openers I'm aware of use a radio key code system.
A source of what?. The entire idea of the system I'm on about is that it comes as part of a kit that means it will automatically open a garage door once setup. But it's primary function is to stop the police from being able to measure your speed.
If there is any question about it from the police or if it does go to court then your defence is that you use the device to open your garage and the fact it is activated by police speed camera devices is not your fault and your not actively trying to block them.
Here is a link to the story of the guy who didn't have the garage door opener fitted to his garage so he got prosecuted:

Here is a link to the actual device:

It is called blueye traget . Google it
I wouldn't want to do any jamming etc
a) You live in London so it will be going off constantly
b) Most mobile speed traps are manned by civilians who I assume don't use the police's radio network.0 -

But that defence failed spectacularly! Why would anyone else want to try it?0 -

It's possible (but far from guaranteed) that if you have both the car unit and a working receiver fitted to a garage door or gate at your property then you might get away with it, but it's certainly not something that I would want to risk.0 -

On re-reading the report, it seems that he did not actually use the garage door defence, rather:
"Eady's claim that he did not know the device had been fitted to his Range Rover was not accepted by the jury."
However, I would certainly agree with your view that it wouldn't be worth the risk.0 -
There is a topic on this Police Detector on Pistonheads at the moment.
Apparently the emergency services are moving aware from the current system to a 4g system. It was supposed to be brought in by now but has been delayed.
Once the system transfers, the £800 equipment would in effect be useless0 -
I recommend a GPS based system. This one is good and you can run it as an app on your phone: http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/subscription.php
Only 20 quid a year.
It warns you in good time so you don't need to slam the brakes on. I've seen so many accidents due to drivers suddenly seeing hidden speed traps and braking.
The speed guns are inaccurate so make sure you do at least 10 mph under the limit. Watch out for idiots dangerously overtaking out of frustration too.0 -
You want to try your luck ? This guy did and is now paying the penalty

That guy doesn't live far from me although I dont know him. He is a idiot and rightly they thrown book at him not only endangering others but think he is above the law. That stretch of road is often patrolled with police because its a known area for speeding and accidents they often occur on Whitewell on the hill.
He was lucky he got off slightly better due to his charity work with round table.
Hope he has learnt his lesson and hope others dont do what he did because you can get caught0
