SIM card for New York trip

Hi all,
I recently became an EE customer on a 4GEE MAX plan. Anyhow after quote a bit of digging around and contact with EE (who are useless) I can't use their travel plan which costs £4 per day for 500MB as I'm on a 4GEE MAX plan... I don't know why this is the case, I've just got to suck it up.
So I thought about either getting a PAYG SIMin the USA or one from the UK which allows me to use data abroad at a reasonable cost.
Does anyone have an suggestions or ideas of the most affordable way of using data abroad. I can't rely on WiFi because I plan on using my phone to navigate me to our hotel.
Many thanks

Just download an offline googlemap onto your phone and use your gps.on your phone to find your way, simple and no data needed.

Also if you have a contract with ee i assume they supllied your phone too so it will be locked to an ee sim only

I'm with 3, and saved over £1,900 when I used my phone on a recent holiday to New York, as the US is covered by their Feel At Home service.

Would you really have spent that £1,900 if the Three plan had been unavailable?
  • Ah, well I tried the offline map but think I'm going to have to zoom in a bit as I thought I could fit the whole of Manhattan on one offline map, but it appears you can't zoom in so see a more detailed view.
I'll try several smaller maps and see how that goes.
    Many thanks

Download the CityMaps2Go App, I have used it for NYC, Las Vegas and San Francisco and it works well when walking around.

Surely this is a typo,if there for 5 days that would be £380 a day or nearly £16 an hour if used for 24 hours a day:eek:
I will certainly not be taking my mobile with me when we go in March,Talktalk will have a field day.

I think you will find that if you open Google Maps, get your position, enter your destination and start to navigate while connected to a free airport WiFi for example, it will continue to navigate to the destination using only GPS with no need for an internet connection.

Otherwise an app that works offline once you have the country map downloaded, such as Navmii, is quite serviceable if your destination is not too obscure.

Very hard to get lost in Manhattan, as all but the very lower sector is on a grid system with sequential cross street numbering. As long as you know the name of the Avenue you need, (and there aren't many) you will be fine-at most just use a free paper map. You'll miss a lot if you walk around with your head in a phone.

You get free wifi in all the NY subway stations!

Good luck with EE! Their phones are locked, and you can't use a SIM 3 card on a locked phone!
