  • That's a shame about your library, Elsien. Mine has the Mum & Baby groups upstairs now the SureStart Centre has closed but it seems to work well for everyone. My library is quite small but has a good mixture of books, enough for me at least. I'm hoping that having the baby groups and well-used computers means it can keep going.
  • I read another Simone St James book and I am about to start another one today. They are ghost/romance books which isn't usually my thing, well, I like ghost stories but not romance, but I am enjoying them. :)

  • The Travelling Vampire Show by Richard Laymon. Takes place entirely in one day in which three teenagers are desperate to go and see the show. Frights, horror, blood etc. This was a re-read of my favourite Laymon book. 9/10

There are some good reads on the Kindle bestseller freebies list at the moment - lots of classics plus some well established relatively recent books.

Some are books that are introducing new long running characters - so I guess they are giving them away as a kind of 'gateway drug' hoping you'll get hooked.... but, hey, it's free.

Just in case you need it, here's the link:

There's an index down the left hand side to narrow down to genres. More categories can be found under the 'Literature and Fiction' option in that list... I have no idea why it's split this way but I usually go this route to find the horror stuff :o.

I spend hours yesterday evening having a look through and 'bought' 27 books . Very, very happy with that.

Just started book number five for this year The Corpse Bridge by Stephen Booth, set in the Derby/Staffs borders seems to be quite good so far, plus my library seem to have a good selection of his books

I finally finished reading The Confession by John Grisham yesterday, 13 months after starting it, as I didn't get much chance to read last year while DH was ill and in and out of hospital, and haven't felt like reading since he passed away. I now have to decide what book I'm going to read next.

I had a strange occurrence with the book, on Friday night I finished reading with about a dozen pages left to read, as I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer, put my bookmark in and put it on the bedside cabinet. However the next morning, when I picked it up to finish it, the bookmark was about 3 quarters of the way through the book, luckily I was able to find where I left off, but as I now live alone I have.no idea how that could have happened.

I've just finished Amazing Kitchens of the Mid West, annibooks freebie which I've had for ages.

Now in Extraordinary People, by Peter Msy, more famous for his Lewis books. His detective is still Scottish, but in France, all over France, in fact. Quite intriguing.

I've just finished this, James Oswald's Dead Men's Bones. It's one of a series and although it just about works as a stand alone book I think it would be better read in order. This book started off quite well but the ending wasn't very satisfying. I was near to the end and looking at the number of pages left and wondering how it could all be wrapped up satisfactorally in so few pages and the answer was it couldn't! It was also a bit similar in storyline to his first book 'Natural Causes' which was much better, so if you like supernatural crime books I'd start with that one.

  • I'm on my 3rd book of the year, The Child by Sebastian Fitzek.
  • I'm reading The Interestings by Meg Wolitzer, about a group of young people who meet at a drama summer camp in the USA.
The book follows them as they grow up and progress through their adult lives.
Enjoying it so far - but only on p. 33 !
Found it through a 'reading challenge' where my task was to read a book by an author who shares my initials. Am reading it for one of my book groups - it was my turn to choose a book, and I was going to read it anyway!
My main book group has just chosen all he rest of this year's books. (We read A Dictionary of Mutual Understanding by Jackie Copleton for January. A very "different" book that was much enjoyed.) For the rest of the year we each looked at books published in the year of our birth, and chose the one we most fancied reading. Should be an interesting year - we are of varying ages - born from 1938 to 1982!
