BT Call Protect

You're probably not aware that people who are ex-directory have their telephone number automatically withheld, and 1470 doesn't work for ex-directory numbers (classed as permanently withheld numbers). So any friends/relatives that aren't choosing to withhold their numbers but are simply ex-directory, can't phone you.securityguy wrote: »As for friends/relatives withholding their number when calling me, why would I want to talk to people who do that? How hard is it to programme 1470 into the memory?0 -
Update..........
Seems to me that since the introduction of Call Protect by BT the scam / spam/nuisance calls have virtually stopped for both me & my Dad.
We have not signed up for it although it is free.....
But obviously BT are removing loads of cr*p before it gets to folk.

My mother is ex-directory and uses 1470 to get through to a close friend whose phone has Call Guardian, it works.0 -
Despite me signing up to CP last Monday it's not been able for BT to activate it. Every time I call I get apologies and promises for it to be activated within 24 hours. Now been seven days!
As I've got Call Guardian I may just give up the struggle.
Not relevant in my case but I've learnt that Infinity / superfast fibre subscribers can't get CP as they are not compatible.0 -
I dunno, is there perhaps different types of ex-directory or something, as that was what we were told, and just recently we weren't able to phone a couple of people who had some kind of caller protection on their phones until they removed it. :huh:My mother is ex-directory and uses 1470 to get through to a close friend whose phone has Call Guardian, it works.0 -

I signed up for Call Protect 2 days ago. It was activated and up and running within 20 minutes. Prior to that we were receiving 4 or 5 nuisance calls a day and I had the answering machine set to answer instantly. Since activation 2 calls have got through and I have added their numbers to my 'personal blacklist'. 9 have been blocked without intervention by me (numbers already on BT's own database of pests) and 4 sent to my (junk calls inbox) which can be reviewed and added to the personal database. I am allowing withheld numbers through (Doctor, sister-in-law etc.) but as BT say, although we don't see the number, they do, and unwanted calls from withheld numbers can still be added. I am seriously impressed with Call Protect, not least its zero cost. At last!0

There must be different types of ex-directory/withheld numbers. I know BT etc now offer options to be ex-directory or permanently withheld (and these are two different options), or you can temporarily withhold your number. I dunno, perhaps its because our number has been ex-directory for so long (30 years), that its automatically withheld too?me too
It was years ago when someone we know first got a call protection feature on their landline and even when we put 1470 in front of it, it doesn't accept our calls. We were told it's because our number is a permanent withdrawn number we couldn't get through. Nowadays it's no big issue as we just use our mobiles.0 -
Can anyone tell me if there is a way to see the phone numbers that are in my junk calls inbox. No one has left a message but I would like to be able to see the phone numbers of the people involved. Thanks0
