:wave:good to see you back pod. Are you still doing photography?
Thanks for all the tips about bags. I have an insert chanie but sometimes I think it encourages me to take everything that's in there when I don't need everything every day 'just in case'. I think you're right indie and it's the days I'm likely to be standing with my bag on my shoulder for a while that need to be changed. So, as you said, on days out mainly. I'm also going to go through my bag and remove non essentials but I think it is my purse that's the main culprit. So not just numerous cards but loose change.
I've weighed this morning and pleased to have lost a pound. Well only a little bit pleased as I know I've eaten very carefully this week so would have liked more but at least it's going the right way.
I have a good weekend planned with the cocktail party tonight and tomorrow we're meeting up with some friends for a meal and drinks. It won't help my weightloss though.:(
I always read up on the 'real' story after I've read a historical novel or seen a play or film sugarbaby. It's good to have that perspective. ETA: I was trying to remember the name of the book I read about Queen Anne and Sarah Churchill. It was Jean Plaidy The Queen's Favourites. I read it years ago, it's online for pennies.
It's a bit dull here too, even some bits of rain forecast. Hardly summer party weather.0 -
I tend to read the thread rather than commenting but would still like to join the meet up in October if possible. I have to be in London on the proposed Friday evening for another conference so the Friday would be my preference.
Loving all the talk of handbags, I've just bought a friend one of those 'inner' zip clutches for her large bag and she loves it, I think I'll be treating myself as I keep losing my keys in my latest bag!0 -

Good to see you posting aaleigha and tigger. The more the merrier. I'm glad the thread helps people, it certainly does it for me. LL was inspired starting it! I've picked up lots of good tips and the 'conversation' is always interesting.
I think Friday 13th October:eek: is firming up as our proposed meet up day.
I'm having a quiet day today catching up on a few things around the house.
Friday's cocktail party went well. My black floral silk dress was a good choice not too OTT but better than casual. As always there were all sorts there. White summer trousers with pretty tops probably the most casual and some in real chiffony type cocktail dresses. Last night we met up with some friends for dinner. They are people we've met over the years in Kalkan and were staying in the area. I wore my new green broderie anglaise dress mainly because it has a matching cardi!:rotfl:The weather was dire although it's a bit better today. We went to a lovely waterfront pub but the weather didn't do it justice. The older members of the thread may remember it from Howards Way.

I'm glad I raised the handbag question. I'm making a big effort to only take out what I really need and I'm definitely going to look into cross body and/or a backpack.
My holiday tan is just beginning to fade a little so I'm helping it along. I've started mixing a tiny bit of fake tan with my body lotion and that's working really well.
I'm keeping up with all my usual fabbing routines including my sonic brush. I'm not sure that it does much but I think it's good to take care of my skin. I was interested in the idea of taking make up off earlier in the evening. I'm very lazy in that respect. I'm finding that although I love my Benefit mascara it really needs an eye make up remover to get it off properly. Does anyone use a dedicated product? wipes?
Indie, I think you're lucky that living in London all the dance classes carry on through the summer. Around here they mainly take a break but there is one that meets just for 4 sessions through August so I'm signed up for that.
My next social 'occasion' is planned for Friday so in the meantime I must get back to healthy eating. I fear that eating out for two evenings in a row may have sabotaged the measly pound I lost last week.:(0 -
Maman re eye makeup, I tend to use my No7 wipes for my eyes, then No7 creamy cleanser rubbed in with my finger tips & tissued off, then I wipe all over with some micellar water on a cotton wool pad and finally moisturiser. (I have to admit that I don't always do this though
)
I am trying to sort out my wardrobe at the moment - I have been working somewhere very casual since January (i.e. jeans or leggings every day) and have noticed a bit of a gap of pretty, colourful casual tops that weren't plain t-shirts or vest tops. I had some "going-out" smarter tops but they were a bit too dressy ( and in some cases dull too) for everyday wear. I've been picking up a few things in the local chazzers and now have a good selection of coordinating tops to go with my (wide ranging) selection of jeans & jeggings. I also donated several things that did me no favours and/or that I don't wear too. I have had a few good sale buys from Sainsbury's recently too - a navy & white jersey knee-length dress with elbow sleeves, a soft denim-y t-shirt dress (both for our South Wales hols in September), a long teal/beige/soft green shirt & some beige jeggings (both full price) and a navy & white tie-dye jersey maxi dress - I love their sales!

Thanks for that floss . I'd thought about wipes. Next time I get a No 7 voucher I'll give them a try.
It's strange about tops, they vary so much. I tend to mostly go for plain ones but I have a few fancier ones but they don't come out very often. I think that's one of the ways M&S get it wrong. They have nice tops and then spoil them with decorative details. Personally I'd rather have plain and add jewellery or a scarf.
Where in South Wales are you going?:)0 -
We are going to Cardiff first (DH worked there during 2009 and we love going there) then along to Solva, near St David's. We're actually going back to the same cottage we rented when we got married in 2010, and will be there for our anniversary2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

How lovely. I was in Cardiff at Easter, it's an impressive city. I hadn't been for some years so enjoyed the revamped art galleries in the National museum particularly. But my home city is Swansea so I'd call in along the Gower coast on the way if it was me! If you just fly past on the M4 you'll miss so much.:)0 -

Indie, enjoy any dates and keep enjoying your full social calendar. There are so many lonely people out there who would love to have your large circle of friends and have the confidence to go out on dates
Thanks sugarbaby, yes, you are right. Even the me of 10 years ago would envy me my life. I think I've got the balance between rest and fun slightly out of kilter lately, but it's much better than the days when my life was all about work.:

That's what I think about an insert, too easy to end up carrying around too much. If I am going to the pub, my only essentials are my house keys, tissues, purse, mobile and lippy, but for every day I will add in kindle, ipod, some tampons (as I would never remember to add them at the right time of the month), face powder, hair brush, hand cream, oyster card, work pass etc.
I think you are right, not heard of any of my dance classes taking a break over the summer - they didn't over Easter anyway. I think the teachers just arrange cover for when they go away - there's enough different teachers round London to do that. One of my (gay) male friends is going to give Ceroc a chance this week - he did ballroom dancing when he was a teenager and he's a good musician so I suspect he will take to it like a duck to water. Be nice to get more of my friends into it - I fancy doing one of the weekends away.
And lots of the events you have to buy couple tickets as they want to ensure there are enough men to go round. It's funny, there are rarely that many more women than men at the class, but all the events the women only spaces sell out dead quick and they have to stop women booking till they have enough men. I can see why, I did one afternoon freestyle which wasn't gender balanced and it was a waste of time, far too many women and as I didn't know most of the men where the regulars new each other, I struggled to get a dance. But I do wonder where these women are when it comes to the classes. Maybe the men as leads are more inclined to go to lessons as they get more experienced - women trust that with a good lead they can follow new moves that the men have picked up in class.
I went to a really interesting perfume exhibition at Somerset House on Friday - opening room was a brief history of perfume, then the next 5 rooms were each themed around one perfume, with scented objects to smell but nothing to tell you what you were smelling, you just made notes on your impressions and then in the sixth room you got to find out what each was and who designed it and what the notes were. Then there were 5 more similarly displayed. At the end there were 3 professional perfumers who had aroma chemicals and accords (simple blends) you could smell and you could ask any questions you wanted. My friend and I got to chat to a trainee and it was really interesting hearing about his job, though depressing to hear we are too old to train... not that I really expect to fundamentally change career, but one never likes to feel like one can't.... Though having said that, there are self taught indie perfumers who don't train the traditional way so there's hope yet...
Yesterday I went into town, got my hair done and bought a new pair of shoes in Dune and some tops in Oasis. One print teal one, one plain teal and one khaki with roses.
Really need to make that all the clothes shopping I do till my holidays - depending on the forecast for Romania I might pick up a couple of cheap pairs of shorts, but other than that I won't need anything till the colder days drawn in during October.
I was due to be going to the seaside for the day today but the friend I was due to be going with backed out. Well, to be more accurate, she put me in a position where I had to tell her it was ok for her not to come. This is the second time she has done something like this. I invited her and her friend to join me and another friend on our trip the Edinburgh festival this year and she said yes and paid the deposit but when it came to sorting out the train travel and tickets for events she started to complain about the cost until I had to ask her if she still wanted to come. Then today she asked if I could pick her up a bit later than planned for our day out as she hadn't slept at all well and had a headache. I asked what was best for her headaches and she said more sleep so I told her to go back to bed. Have to admit, it irritates me a bit when people make you tell them not to come instead of having the courage to just admit they don't want to come anymore, it's childish.
Anyway, I had plenty of chores to get done so am getting on top of them today instead of leaving till my day off - did my washing up (which had been piling up), sorted out my snacks (little tupperware pots of seeds, nuts, coconut chips) got my soup making underway (first batch done, next I just need to skin the peppers I've roasted and add to the other pre-prepared ingredients, laundry on, did a manicure and facial, tidied up a bit.. all useful stuff and will help me stay on track during the week.
Have a fab rest of the weekend all x0 -
indie your perfume class seems really interesting. I'd love to find my signature scent, something that smells amazing on me.
How annoying about your friend. Has she always been this way, or do you think something else is going on?
We had a rather disappointing day. We planned a family trip out, but had to turn back due to all the roads being closed for the Ride London cycling event. Typical. Today has been the nicest day for a while now.
When we got home, I popped out and picked some blackberries, which I've frozen. I'm going to try making some blackberry jam and also some vodka over the next few weeks.0
