Well LL given the way that Arya dispatched Walter Frey and his crew my money would be on her!! But knowing GOT you just never know.....

Maman ah books, now that is an obsession of mine, all subjects, all genres. Obviously fantasy novels, Robin Hobb and GR Martin, for fictional history I especially like the Shardlake novels from CJ Sanson but for a total change I am currently re-reading the Rosamunde Pilcher novels, Shell Seekers, September etc. I first read them years ago and am thoroughly enjoying re-acquainting myself with the characters.

Thanks for that Lainey. Like you, I read Rosamund Pilcher years ago. I went through a period of enjoying everything with a Cornish flavour like EV Thompson, Daphne DuMaurier, Susan Howatch and of course the Poldark novels.

Lately it's been Irish stuff including Maeve Binchy but also more modern settings like Patricia Scanlan, Cathy Kelly and Sheila O'Flanagan.

After a while I find I tire of the chick lit type of books and need something else. I suppose this week I should turn to Jane Austen but I think I'm going to try a couple of Thomas Hardy novels that I've not read. It was my plan to start yesterday but my back started playing up (ongoing disc problem that flares up now and again) so I took painkillers and couldn't concentrate on anything much. Hopefully today will be better.

Not done much fabbing today except for usual moisturising but that's now routine.

One thing I have kept up with is keeping my eyebrows tidy. I don't think I'm imagining it but it really feels that the threading lasts longer than my usual wax. I might go for it again.

Nails are also staring to look healthier as I've had the shellac off for a week or so.I'm going to give them another month or so and keep cutting them short so they're all new growth. I might paint them myself just as a one off for an occasion.

On the list for this week is to book a massage. I've got a couple of Groupon vouchers so I'll use one of them.

On Friday we've been invited to a cocktail party for the start of Cowes week. I don't think people dress up for such events as much as they maybe did in the past so I need to think what to wear.

Mamam........Wahoo a cocktail party .......... what a fab chance to get the glad rags on. Tbh that's why I like cruises.....it's about the last bastion of real all out glamour dressing - apart from Hollywood film premieres ......:rotfl: and I can't see me getting a red carpet invitation. .

Whilst I'm happy to dress "smart casual" I do somewhat mourn the passing of "grownup dressing". At one time people went to town, dressing up for the theatre, dinner - nowadays people even rock up at the opera in jeans etc.

I don't mind, I'm all for democratisation of dress but sometimes I would like to see people make more of an effort. I know this might sound snobby but sometimes I look around and think that dress codes are perhaps a little too "relaxed" at times.

    PJ 's in supermarkets :eek::rotfl:

Re books.....I'm not one for chick lit tbh but I quite enjoyed some of the "Shopaholic" ones (Sophie Kinsella). ANd of course, every so often you can't beat a good "bonkbuster" .

I first got into history when I was a teenager with all those Jean Plaidys and Bernard Cornwall books. That sparked my interest and I graduated from there to reading history proper as it were.

And of course.....all those classic romances so beloved of teenage girls, Wuthering Heights, Far from the Madding Crowd etc. Once when I put my back out I read Gone with the Wind in a weekend

I have not read the novels but I am enjoying Poldark on the TV. And yes I still like to dip into Jane Austin now and again. So witty.

One of my favourites - and one which I reread every couple of years or so is Laurie Lee, Cider with Rosie and As I Walked Out.....his childhood in Stroud, and then his journey across Spain.

You can't beat a good book......or a good film - pure escapist pleasure.

I have got three books on the go at the moment......all non fiction.......a vogue fashion book, one on investing and one on political strategy....My fiction fix is mainly film at the moment. I recorded the second Broadchurch series which I've not seen yet, so that might be next.

I have also discovered the likes of Spike TV - loads of nice old films on there. Watched "To Sir With Love" yesterday.....and "Goodbye Mr Chips" last week. :rotfl:

Lainey......my money is sort of on Jamie because of the prophecy.....but maybe that's too obvious. As you say the plot twists and turns. Now that Jons true identity has been revealed (Although I guessed that one right from the beginning) he too could fulfill the prophecy.

Or maybe the prophecy is a red herring.....:rotfl:

Ps.....Maman is the party on board or on dry land.

I guess the obvious answer is when in doubt go for a LBD but maybe a bit too obvious and safe..

If it's a summer event and the water is kind then maybe something a bit more relaxed, a nice floaty dress. I seem to recall you have a nice jump suit/cat suit you are fond of. That would work, especially on board.

It's on dry land at the Yacht Club. I'm thinking probably my black silk dress which has a floral pattern and heels to dress it up. I've got a black satin pair with embroidered fronts very similar to the dress. But my new green broderie anglaise is a possibility. Nice decision to have.
Completely agree about falling dress standards. People do dress up but if Ascot and other race meetings are anything to go by tarty is a word that comes to mind. :rotfl:

Oh don't get me started on tarty!!!

Far too much flesh on show. :rotfl:

I was always taught the "golden rules"

Cleavage or legs, not both at the same time. Nowadays.....it's boobs, tums, backs, arms, legs, thighs - all at once

White shoes belong on the tennis courts, trainers on the track or in the gym

and definitely not white shoes with a dark dress or dark tights.

No long dangley earrings before 6 pm
Danglies or big necklace, not both

But basically less is more.......don't get over dolled up and end up looking like a Christmas tree.

Apparently Chanel was reputed to have said that as you leave the house take one last look and remove one accessory or piece of jewellery.

And I would add.......dont wear stilletos with mini skirts and go easy on the animal prints.

Ok some of the rules are a bit old fashioned now...we don't have to have matching shoes and bags and the "no dangley earrings before 6" is a bit passe now.

But still clothes that are too tight, too skimpy and which leave nothing to the imagination don't really look classy.

Oh how true on the lack in classy dressing, that's why we always avoid the more popular "Ladies " Day at the July race meeting and go to Gentlemans Day instead as there is a lot of women there but very few Ladies imho :rotfl: some of the sights you see, shudders!
If only they employed same rules as the royal enclosure at Ascot, no skirt above the knee, straps on dresses have to be a certain width, no cleavage on show etc...

Your dresses sound fabulous Maman, guess it just depends on the weather now and what you think feels right, how lovely to have such an occasion to look forward to.

Both those dates are fine by me, like I say don't really know our capital so well so will leave location etc to our more informed fabbers x

    Hello Ladies,

I have an eclectic taste in books as I like all genres. :D I read far more fiction than non fiction books. I do not tend to re-read books, as I like to enjoy reading as many books as I can fit in each year.

I am not trying to be a film critic, so bear in mind, that these are just my personal opinions of how I find the films that I watch. You may have differing opinions of the same films. Nevertheless, I am glad that some of you ladies have enjoyed my film reviews.

    LL
I also intend to watch the films Hampstead and Churchill at home just as soon as they are available through my You View box. Your surround sound system will make your television viewing even more pleasurable, especially when you are watching a film. The Director's Box sounds like a real treat for you occasionally.

I have exchanged £20 of my Nectar points for 8 Vue cinema tickets, so I will be watching more films at the cinema in the next 2 weeks with my daughter.

I have never seen a single episode of G.O.T, but only because there are too many programmes that I already watch and I am always have to record episodes of many different programmes to watch later. There is only 24 hours in each day and I always have other pursuits to take up my time to also fit into each day.

LL your bedroom is going to be a fabulous room for you to sleep and relax in.

October will definitely work for me for the meet up. I am looking forward to the 1st meet up of the Frump to Fab Posse.

When it comes to standards of dress, I agree with you LL, that unfortunately the majority of women no longer under how to dress with class and decorum. I feel that this is a real shame, but we all have to accept that times have irrevocably changed when it comes to what is appropriate modes of dress for special occasions. Personally, I would always rather be over dressed than under dressed.

Maman[/B], I am glad your ankle is so much better now. I would not wear Skechers, but only because I would not pay the price they cost. I like wearing my trainers though. Keep going with the healthier eating and drinking more water and the weight loss will happen. Enjoy your night out at the Yacht Club. I am sure you will look fab whatever you choose to wear.

Lainey T, keep up the Pilates as it is really working for you.
