I've got the same problem with mud outside! I ordered 2 pretty good mats from Amazon. They are not branded dirt grabbers or anything special but they do they the trick! I'm just as bad coming back from the stables and the doorway getts pretty congested with me trying to take off my boots with 3 cats under my feet. It was under £15 for 2 - 120 x 80cm ?
Not that the cats have been out much since the first week here - they just sleep most of the time - stress bonding!0 -

Check out Splendid Pets, I've had a 6' x 4' mat and a 8' runner from them. They also tend to do Crufts, if you're going at all.

I'm just wondering if a cheap off-cut of suitable carpet would do the job, then throw it at the end of its useful life.
May need gripper tape to keep it in place.
Alternatively, buy several smaller mats, although I get what you're saying about cost of the dirt-trappers. Although if you think that's bad, look at the proper Turtle prices!
The advantage of smaller mats is that you'll be able to machine wash them and tumble dry them. I don't do it often, but it is possible.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Krlyl - thanks for that. Looks like nice sizes and reasonable prices. Trying to work out what their grading means as can not find info on site about what A or C or Pearl grade is?0
-
Ah, found it now
We grade these dirt trapper mats into 3 different categories;
Pearl Grade Mats- are as new with no visible marks on the carpet pile and maybe a very small nic out of the rubber border.
A-Grade Mats -A-Grade mats are our most popular range of dirt trappers, these will have a small visible mark on the carpet pile and or cuts or cut outs of the rubber border, overall we would say these mats are 85% perfect.
Kennel Grade Mats - Our Kennel grade is as it sounds, light to heavy soiling on the carpet pile and or cuts in the rubber border and possibly into the carpet.0 -
I have some of these - they're invaluable!! Can't remember what grade I bought, but they really keep the dirt out.0
